Does anyone know what gpa scale Barnard College uses? Are they one of those places that see an A- and automatically count it as a 3.7 or do they go on the step by step scale and see a 90=3.5, 91=3.6, 92=3.7?

P.S. I have a 3.6 according to my transcript.

Well, this doesn’t exactly answer your question, but I would assume they recalculate your GPA according to their own system. The other seven sisters schools we visited do this, and Barnard probably does as well. They look at your transcript pretty closely, probably throw out “fluff” classes, probably assign a certain weight to AP/IB classes, etc. etc. etc. So the GPA your high school sends is likely not what they’ll be using to evaluate you. Not to mention that they all stressed the importance of rigor in the transcript… how many AP/IB classes you took compared to what the school offered. They’re much more “holistic” in evaluating you academically than, say, a big state flagship that looks solely at GPA and test scores.

Ok, this helps a little thanks!
