what are the interviews like? what kind of questions do they ask?

it's more of a conversation than an interview. they ask what you like about barnard, what things you do for fun, what extracurriculars you do, etc. my interviewer was an english major and so we talked about books. it's your opportunity to give them a more personal side of you and to emphasize something you feel is really important. it's also your chance to find out more about barnard.. it's not only about them deciding if they want you here, but also about you deciding if you want to be here.
good luck!

do they pair you up with an interviewer in the major that you want to go into?

no, it's random, and it might not even be a student - it could be an alum or an admissions rep. but it's not meant to be intimidating.

Laurstar, my daughter had her best interview at Barnard. She had spent a week interviewing at east coast colleges, starting on a Monday. Barnard was her 4th and last interview for the week, scheduled for a Friday morning. My d. was ecstatic after the interview, because it was the one place she sat down and had a stimulating conversation -- she was fortunate that her interviewer shared common interests with her, but I have a sense also that the setting simply seemed less stilted or formal, and that my daughter has more of a sense that her interviewer was truly interested in what she had to say.

So just relax - it's not a test, so you really can't go wrong.
