Barnard Opportunity Program

Hello,
So I was just giving up hope on college and was frustrated with the amount of money I would have to pay when I saw Barnard OP or BOP. I went online and read about it. I am qualified for it since I am first generation and low income and immigrant. I was thinking of applying to that program when I apply to Barnard (I am applying anyway I love the school). But I had some questions:
Is being a BOP student different than being just another student at Barnard? What I mean is, do you have special classes or something?
Am I prevented from taking certain classes because i’m in BOP?
Do I live in a different campus if I am accepted through the BOP?
I am asking these questions because even though I would love to go to Barnard in general if I apply to BOP, I want to make sure what I am getting into. I don’t want to be prevented from taking challenging classes and engaging in school activities because am in BOP. Was anybody a accepted and attended through the BOP program? How different was it? Were u able to interact with other non BOP students?

Thank you so much!

You are treated no differently as a HEOP student. You live in the same housing, take the same classes, and have exactly the same status. What you get however is excellent financial aid; special support in the form of counselling and tutoring; and special advisers. No one will know you are a HEOP student unless you tell them. It is a fantastic program.

Thank you so much! I spoke to my counselor and I am definitely applying. I am actually doing BOP (Barnard Opportunity program) for out of state students.
