Essays (rating 1-10, details):
Common App- (7/10 or 8/10) talked about how I founded the school’s major tutoring clubs and how I tutored two math teachers in calculus (I thought this would attract their attention, not everyone can say they tutored math teachers in math) it really gave an insight into the type of person I am and a lifelong experience and commitment to teaching, but I guess it wasn’t the type of hook they were looking for
Why Barnard- (10/10) talked about my interest in the Combined Plan program and about how the Morningside Heights location will let me have internships on Wall Street
Woman- (10/10) talked about Margaret Hamilton, who wrote the code that took the first rocket to the moon and about how women in STEM should look up to her
Majored in Unafraid- (9/10) talked about sexism in my extended family and how I’ve been working to combat it my entire life and how I hope to combat it by going to barnard, an all women’s school
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: (10/10) APUSH teacher- I’m his favorite student and he knows me really well. I sit in his class every day during my free period and we just talk and he told me he wrote a very personal rec
Teacher Rec #2: (9/10) AP Physics teacher- I used to go into class every day in the morning and talk with him and he likes me, I don’t know how this recommendation would be like but everyone says he writes great recs
Counselor Rec: (6/10) she barely knows me and she made us all submit biographies and resumes for her to write them so I doubt it was good at all
Additional Rec: (9/10) I had my dance and vocals teacher write this one. she knew me since I was only 4 years old so she really knows me as a person and how I grew up and changed as a person. she also knows the type of learner I am

Reflection
Strengths: everything in objective, Recs were great too and I had two internships
Weaknesses: not enough leadership. I never ran for any school office, I preferred to lead in the background (like with founding the tutoring club and being in charge of backstage at concerts)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I am a woman in STEM and I’m also the first person Barnard accepted from my high school
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted to Georgia Tech, rejected from MIT and UPenn
General Comments: I was so happy!!! I’ve always wanted to live in NYC and with the 3-2 program I can major in econ and engineering, which I would have had to choose between at other schools
