My daughter just got into Harvard tonight, so she is notifying Barnard tomorrow that her slot is available! Good luck to all of you!!!

Holy cow – that’s awesome! Again, congrats to your daughter, and thank you!

that is awesome THANK YOU TO HER for freeing up a space so excited! that’s how it should be done and CONGRATS on HARVARD!!!

My D received her acceptation on Monday (5/2)priority mail - we are in the North East

Would the reason that some of us have received decision earlier is some of people have more excellent academic or activities? I think that’s the reason why Barnard accept these guys first. For the rest of us, I assume that we may have the same level of background, so they need to make decisions more difficultly… That’s just what I thought… Just only one week left… cross fingers!

I’m so worried. this wait is killing me!

just one week!!! one week seems like thousand years…

yeah. I am terrified. especially since i just moved this weekend and I’m not sure if the forwarding address is working fine!!!

)):

still fingers crossed.

I just called admission office. They told me they may delay the tranferring admission decisions to the last week of the May. I am worried I have to make a deposit to another college before the mid of the May. Barnard is the last school I need to hear but is also the one I care most. I cannot make a deposit to other college without hearing decision from Barnard. It is really hard!

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like most people are still going to hear this week. Barnard’s been saying that everyone will hear by May 15th for so long that I’d think that, by now, the bulk of admissions decisions have been made and mailed.

I could be totally wrong, but I think I’m still going to keep my fingers crossed that we all hear this week.

accepted now > accepted later > not accepted now > not accepted later

that’s how i see it. but of course, everyone wants to know now if they get in or not and i wish we all did. toes, fingers, everything crossable, crossed Will you all post your decisions as soon as you get them?

I will post as soon as I heard from Barnard! I feel like we are a very united group right now. I hope we all can get in!

I received my Barnard acceptance last Monday, May 2nd. It was dated April 29. I live in the Southeast. I was honestly shocked that I heard back so early because I didn’t request an early notification or anything. However, I did apply REALLY early, around January 20th, so maybe they are releasing decisions in that order.

I’m so excited about Barnard and I hope to see you all there next year! Good luck to everyone!

can anyone call them again to assure that they would send decisions by 15th? I called so many times. I guess they could have known my voice… haha…:)… I cannot wait the last week of May to hear decisons…There are a lot o things I need to plan in advance!

Argh. I made a bet with my mom that I would hear today. Now I’m out five bucks and I still haven’t heard, lol.

At least I’ll get to finish my finals in peace before either celebrating or being disappointed.

I guess the decision comes when it comes, though I certainly hope it comes soon. Congratulations annajacqueline – that’s awesome. (And congratulations to anyone who got in who I didn’t congratulate already – getting into Barnard is certainly an honor!)

I’m rather scared now. am i not having the letter because i’m not getting in? I’ve got rejected from tufts today btw. not my first choice(that would be barnard) but somehow, things are not looking so well for me now ):

(Ah! This is really long – sorry!)

Aw, I’m sorry barnardbarnard. But keep your hopes high for Barnard – the two schools look for a different kind of applicant, and just because Tufts rejected you doesn’t mean that Barnard will too.

The same thought about being rejected since we haven’t heard yet crossed my mind, too. But I bet it’s probably more like how vinniexinyu suggested a few pages earlier – the most outstanding applicants are hearing now, but it’s harder to make decisions about the rest of us, so it’s taking longer.

I know I read that, at Georgetown, they rate applicants on a scale of 1-5. People above 4.5 automatically get in, people below 3.0 are automatically rejected. The people in the middle (from 3.0 to 4.5) get looked at by a second committee, so the process takes a bit longer. That doesn’t mean that none of the “second look” people get in – some of them ultimately are accepted, some are rejected, and some are waitlisted. (I think the process is about the same at Wesleyan, and probably at most other major universities, too.)

How I see it is that Barnard sent out decisions to the people who’s admission decision was really obvious. Like the mom of the girl upthread a bit – that girl also got into Harvard, so Barnard was sort of a shoo-in for her. I don’t know, but I’d bet that Barnard has also already notified applicants who had no chance at admissions (like someone, for example, who has a 1.0 gpa and a 15 ACT score). We haven’t heard from anyone who’s been rejected, but most people on collegeconfidential are high-achievers. I can’t really imagine that many people on here applying to Barnard with such poor stats.

I have no idea, but I’m guessing, that the people who haven’t heard are in the middle. Yeah, we’re not the most phenomenal applicants, but we’re also not the worst, and we still have a decent shot at admission. I’m assuming that the Barnard admissions people just needed to see what their yield rate will be (since that affects how many transfers are admitted) and needed to review the applications a bit more before making decisions.

Of course, I could be absolutely 100% wrong. But I think it’s a bit more reassuring to think of it like this, than automatically assuming that we’ve all been rejected. (Not that I haven’t done that myself – I worried myself all weekend thinking about Barnard :/)

Fingers crossed that we all hear positive news soon!

Your explanation makes a lot of sense, handgrenades. Although I must say, I had no idea that admissions officers took this long to deliberate. And I always assumed they sent out all admissions decisions on the same day, but reading this thread, that’s obviously not true. Hearing that people have gotten their letters already is making me even more neurotic about checking my mailbox. >.<

Anyway, just adding my voice to the rest of yours and hoping we all hear from Barnard soon!

did anyone ever go to barnard admission page on Facebook? Someone just posed a question in reagrd to transfer decisions for admission office, I think they would reply bery soon. Let’s wait.

Oh, thank you for telling us about that! It looks to be a very useful thing. I’m eagerly awaiting the response to the question that was just posted.
