Always wanted to go to columbia. My mom did grad school there but I'm doubtful I'll get in. So im wondering whether I should apply to Barnard instead (where I'll probably have a better chance of getting in) because at Barnard you can take classes at Columbia and you graduate with a columbia degree. is there really that much difference between columbia and barnard?

Time to make popcorn, kick back, and watch the festivities!

Yes, there is a difference; they’re two different schools. You don’t exactly get a Columbia degree. Your certificate will say Barnard College of Columbia University. If you’re only going to Barnard because you want to be a part of Columbia without actually going to Columbia, I would suggest not doing that.

Oh god… Please let’s not do this.

The “search” feature on this forum is your friend…

try using it since this has been discussed to death!

Yeah, I’ll be fine if I get into either school. Im not gonna be one of those people who goes to barnard but pretends that I go to Columbia. They’re bothe great schools I guess.

Two recommendations … first, please do search this question; it has been discussed many times … second, both Columbia and Barnard are terrifc schools but different along many dimension … I’d suggest you visit both and I’d be surprised if you did not have a clear preference for one of them after the visit. Finally, and if you’re lucky enough to attend one the relationship between the two allows you to gain many bennies fro mthe other schools if you choose to.
