My daughter wants to apply to Columbia. She walked on the campus and loved it. Despite this she wants to explore Barnard because she wants to major in math education.

My question is, what do these two schools share? Does Barnard room at Columbia and take classes there?

This has been discussed extensively both on this website and Barnard's. But to answer your specific questions, no, Barnard has its own dorms and campus, as your daughter no doubt noticed on her visit. Registration between the two schools is very, very open. You can take most of your classes at either school.

The schools share most course offerings, student centers, spaces, activities, clubs, sports, dining, webspace, libraries... it's easier to list what they don't share:

Hiring of faculty and staff, dorms (for the most part), health services, endowment, administration, trustees, admissions, "school identity/spirit," senior and freshman seminars, Core curriculum classes, and probably a few other things I forgot to mention.

Addition: sorry if that sounded short; it's been a long day. Aaaand I just noticed that for some reason, most of the older posts on this forum have vanished, so you can't possibly have seen them. I have no idea what happened there.
