Barron's Critical Reading Workbook

I've been looking at this discussion, and I have found some really good tips here for the SAT and great ways to prepare for it as well. HOWEVER, I have seen some people say that the Barron's Critical Reading Workbook is pretty good. That statement is a complete lie. Barron's CR workbook has some of the most worst reading passages that I have ever seen. Some of there explanations for the answers are highly disputable because they can not be verified in the passage (which is how collegeboard has designed each cr reading passage question). So when I see that great praises given to this book, I wonder if I have mistakenly picked up a different book, but guess what, I haven't, I am reading the same book others been praising in their reviews. This book is the worst prep book I've ever read, and just shows how some of the big prep companies just care about collecting money from high school students concerned about going to college?

What are you HONEST opinions about this workbook?

I got this because of the good reviews also. I have to agree, this book is complete s***

Stick with the BB if you want practice... this workbook is completely useless. The questions are nothing like real CB questions, as you said.

I also agree that it isn't the best book to use to study. I didn't find it very helpful or useful either. I'm disappointed because the reviews for it were so high!

I would be reluctant to use any non CB materials to practice, but at least other testmakers can produce fairly accurate math and writing questions. It's really not that difficult to come up with those types of questions. However, I would NEVER use non CB critical reading questions/material. The passages are almost certainly not like the real thing, and the sentence completion probably tests words that will never show up on the actual test.
