I had mentioned that my D participated in this and wanted to "report" so that those of you investigating competitions have the benefit of our experience. Submission for the DVD fits right into submission for auditions. We sent the same DVD that we used for college apps. There is a high school division as well as college, amateur and professional classical singers. We heard back before Christmas that she had won and the winners recital was this past Sunday, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie. Communication with the organizers was great and they were excellent hosts. Saturday there was a two hour seminar on the Business of Music. My D really enjoyed it and, better than that, she paid attention and used the info she was provided. She had a rehearsal with her accompanist at Juilliard that afternoon. On Sunday morning, they had a "sound check" and rehearsal at Weill Recital Hall. Recital was at 1:30 Sunday afternoon. My D was the youngest one there. It was quite the international group of singers - all were marvelous. She has made friends with singers from around the world. A three hour program to a sold out house. My D said it was the most amazing day of her life. We took my parents. It is probably the last time my dad will be able to travel to see her sing - he has demensia and Parkinsons - so a special time for him. I had some consternation on the outset about whether this was a good decision to apply for/participate in this competition. In hindsight, it was fantastic. I just wanted to post this for others who may go thru my same thought process in the future.

Just FYI - we walked thru the Met on our way back from Juilliard and a security guard GAVE us two tickets to the performance that night. Kismet.
