I currently attend another institution and I will be getting my associate's degree in Fashion Design soon. I don't think fashion is right for me and I hate it. So after I graduate I want to obtain a bachelor's degree in a different major (Either in Business or Finance). I am thinking about attending a local community college and take a couple of business and gen ed. courses. After that I want to apply to Baruch.

I heard that they offer an honors program and, if you get accepted, you get a free laptop and a full tuition scholarship. However, the Macaulay Honors program does not accept transfer students or students who have attended another college.

So I was wondering if the Baruch Scholars Honors program (I think that's what it's called) accept transfer students? Does that program also offer a scholarship as well? There is also another honors program at Baruch called Provost Scholars. Which is for continuing students and I don't think they offer scholarships.

I was also wondering if Baruch is credential even if I don't apply in to their honors program? Or will it be better if I just apply to Upenn or NYU (which I don't really want to do because of their high tuition).

Here are the sources where I got my information on the honors program:

Any information will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks!

As a current Macaulay student at Baruch, I can tell you for sure that you can’t transfer into Macaulay. I also doubt that you can transfer into Baruch Honors, but don’t quote me on that. Provost is possible, but probably unlikely since you would enter Baruch as a Junior. I don’t think you can transfer in AS a Provost Scholar, but rather have to go through the necessary procedure while you’re a student at Baruch. That means that if you enter Baruch as a Junior, it might be too late to apply to be a Provost Scholar. You should call the honors office to find out. Also, try to find out about whether or not you can transfer into Baruch Honors (which I highly doubt). Even if you can become a Provost Scholar (which is the only one I think might be possible in your case), I don’t think you get a laptop or free tuition – just the Provost Scholar distinction, and first-day registration privileges (which is NOT something to scoff at). A final word of advice, only come to Baruch if you don’t think you’ll be miserable commuting, and would enjoy what Baruch has to offer you. If not, look into Penn like you said (not NYU though – their aid is crap), since they’re pretty good with financial aid (granted you get in, of course).

you CAN transfer to Baruch Honors.

Perhaps you could transfer to Baruch now without bothering with community college. If you were my child that would be what I would suggest.

I would suggest you call their admissions office.

Keep in mind that the maximum number of credits that may be transferred from a two-year institution is 70. That is why I don’t recommend community college. The classes you have taken for your AA will probably transfer to Baruch, taking care of your Gen Ed requirements and a number of your electives.

I can also see how a background in fashion and a subsequent degree in business or finance would be very beneficial in a city like New York. :)

Thanks for all the information! I was only thinking about taking at least 18-24 credits at the community college though. My plan is to finish my degree in fashion design and while I’m doing that I was just going to take a few classes at the community college. So after I get my fashion degree I would already have a couple of credits to transfer over to Baruch.

So I’m guessing I would be considered a “Continuing Student” since I already have a degree (associate in fashion)?
