As one might guess, I'm a big baseball fan. I have a few fantasy baseball teams and the like. I was wondering do UofCers enjoy professional baseball. Do you go to games often? Which Chicago team are you partial to?

Going to Sox games is pretty common because the stadium is really close and you can get student-level prices. Cubs tickets are difficult to get and, in my opinion, overpriced.

does the u of c baseball coach do any recruiting, or does he just hold try-outs for the team????? if anyone plays baseball at u of c or knows anything about whether excelling in this area will earn you acceptance, let me know.

Mikenthemaddog66, if you're into fantasy baseball and especially if you're interested in real baseball and baseball analysis, then I can tell you that UofC definitely has folks with your interests. Or at least they did when my son attended UofC, and now guess what he does for a living: writes about and analyzes baseball. He still lives in Chicago. You can always get tickets to a given game, it's just a matter of price (in the secondary market).

He found plenty of time to go to games. I remember picking him up in June after his freshman year and asking him whether he went to any baseball games. "Oh, about 10," was his answer. (Since the season starts around April 1, this was a pretty goodly number of games.) "Did you ever miss class to attend baseball games?" I asked. "No," he answered, and then corrected himself, "except on opening day." "Which opening day game did you go to?" I asked, "Cubs or Sox?" "Both," he answered.

He also kept going with his Scoresheet teams while in college, and even earned some money during the school year writing for BaseballHQ as a "Scoresheet expert."

One of the biggest attractions to him of UChicago is that it it located in a "major league city" in more than one sense. The trick, of course, is keeping enough of your focus on your studies. My son did (majored in economics). I bet you can too.
