Basements?

So my friend just got back from visitng Smith and she mentioned that there are basements with passageways that connect the buildings. How does this work? Are all buildings included?

Basements do not connect all the buildings. The Science center is connected via tunnel and covered bridge and there's an underground between Music and Theater.

The House basements are nifty for storage, long-term storage, and illicit parties.

Some of the houses share basements and you can cross through the basement to get between the houses. I'm not sure which ones except for mine which is Cutter/Ziskind. Besides storage in the basement trunk rooms, the washer/dryers are in the basement and there are two large rooms (one for each house) with old furniture that we call "the pit". The Cutter Pit literally was a pit until about the last month of school when we painted the walls and put a huge mural on one side. It turned out great and the room will probably get a lot more use next year.

The basements are kind of scary tho.......

woot! Cutter/Z Pit! Umm, yeah, as the other posters said, the basements are not all connected, unless the house has a sister house, in which case they may be. It's not like Barnard with a system of tunnels that run through the buildings (though that would be sweet....). I did hear once that Sessions House (the oldest building in Northampton) used to be on the Underground railroad and has some sort of "secret passageway" that the residents search for on Halloween. Of course, Sessions is also supposed to be one of the only houses that is credibly haunted too....

The basement at Baldwin House was set up as a hang-out/apartment for the Secret Service when Julie Nixon lived upstairs. Now it is student housing.

Cushing, Emerson and Jordon are connected. So are Gardener, Wilson and Morrow.
