Basic SAT Essay question before the test. Prompt help pls!

While writing an essay, can I choose a side and acknowledge the other side.
For example if i'm given this prompt...."Is there any value for people to belong only to a group or groups with which they have something in common?" and I choose a side.

Can I say I understand that, to an extent, the other side is true/correct?
Or do I have to just completely stick to my side?

eg. I choose NOT to support belonging to a group of people with which you have things in common and I say "Belonging to a group of people with which you share a common goal may help one attain said goal quickly/easily, however....."

Will that make me lose marks?

Choose the one side and support it with examples. That’s it.

Yup. In the blue book essay (that scored 12) a girl did so. :>
I think it shows that even though you have your opinion, you’re not close-minded.

Thanks.
any other opinions?
