Are people at Cornell excited about the success of the basketball team this year?

I am! And I'm not even at Cornell anymore. It'll probably spell a 1st round exit in the NCAA tourney but it'll still be pretty cool.

The hockey team just blows this year.

Yeah, I got in ED and I am huge basketball fan. Looks like they will probably be around a 13 seed.

People are getting pretty excited, especially at the prospect of getting into the NCAA tournament. I think people really started getting pumped after we beat Penn. I don't know basketball well at all, but even I'm planning on going to at least one of the next four home games.

Women's basketball is also doing really well. This is a huge weekend for them. Yesterday's victory against Harvard put them at the top of the Ivy League. The women have another important game tonight against Dartmouth, so that should be pretty exciting.

You know something exciting's going on if I start paying attention to basketball. ;) Now's a good time to be a basketball fan at Cornell.

Even 13th seed might be too generous. This team isn't very good (although they hung w/ Duke for 60% of the game). It's just a down year for Penn. I remember interviewing at Penn late last year. My interviewer was really excited to have tickets for the Penn-UNC game. Neither of us realized at the time how crappy this year's Penn team would be.

Anyway, I've been a Stanford fan since 9th grade so it's all good if Cornell doesn't go far.

I'm really excited for the basketball team....I hear last night's game at Harvard was amazing!!

Too bad I was at the hockey game....which wasn't even worth my time or the money I shelled out for season tickets :-(

Haha, I know. This was the first year I got season tickets, and I can't say that I've been too happy so far. I ended up skipping out on yesterday's game, and it looks like I made the right decision.

So you do not get the sense that Cornell is building up a good program, but rather Penn is just terrible this year and somebody has to fill the void?

Isn't that the way it always is in basketball and football for the Ivy League? I think Cornell is the equivalent of a Cal or Washington in the Pac-10 (ie they would finish somewhere around 8th in the Pac-10). And that's for this year's team. Sure it was a great game last night. But it shouldn't have been a great game. Harvard had no business hanging with Cornell. This Harvard team was beaten by a Stanford team missing its best player (Brooks Lopez) 111-56 in the first game of the season. This just shows Cornell still has aways to go.
