I'm thinking of going to UCI but I'm a little freaked out about communal bathrooms. My experiences with them have been less than pleasant. Does Middle Earth or Mesa Court have cleaner bathrooms? And also what is it like to share the bathrooms with 10-20 other people?

Did you attend Celebrate UCI today? When I visited Mesa I saw a few bathrooms by the dorms and the bathroom I came across contained 2 showers and 2 sinks. From what I saw, they were clean.

Attended Celebrate UCI Day with D yesterday. Middle Earth tour seemed to me that more people share a bathroom than the #/ bath in Mesa. Maybe it’s the same but it seemed like fewer. ME was much more convenient to everything & students all said the food is better. The house common living room, kitchen & laundry were all more worn & smaller. All the same items in Mesa Court were newer, larger, & far nicer I personally liked Mesa much better, more spread-out & park-like setting. These dorms are newer than ME. The rooms weren’t drastically different at all, but noticed all other amenities were much nicer at Mesa. They have a student center you can take yoga classes, etc. & a really nice computer lab & also 4 really nice small mtg room you could hold project or study sessions. FYI, NEITHER has AC, but they do have heat!!! Also, if you want you can rent a micro-fridge in either dorm. You can bring your own mini fridge but must meet size req & can’t bring in your own micro, only UCI’s. If you want to bring a coffee maker it must be placed in the house kitchen, so I don’t see the point of that. Mesa’s at the far edge of campus & for many this is a downside. Also, ME is more of a social hub in the middle of campus, so more people around & activity. A bike would get you to the heart a campus quickly & make that a wash. Mesa residents can eat at ME if they like anytime.

Sorry @MaineLonghorn, I was trying to be helpful but will not post direct links. Thanks for assisting with the edit.

The communal bathroom thing really isn’t as bad as it sounds, I was worried after applying after some people said it was like 15 people per restroom and everyone could basically see you showering but none of that is true. I share one restroom in Mesa Court with 7 people, the showers are private, and there is rarely more than 2 or 3 people in there at once, you really do get used to the concept so it doesn’t seem weird after a while
