Baylor or UT?

Well the title speaks for itself, UT has been my dream college since I knew what college even was, but a certain school from Waco is looking a bit more enticing at the moment. As much as I want to go to UT, Baylor is giving me a really nice scholarship while UT has given me 0. I was also accepted into my Business major at Baylor, but I don't know if UT will let me into McCombs what with it's prestige and all and my crappy test scores (1610 SAT). Which college should I choose?

A few questions first:

How important is the money to you and your family? Can you swing it without the scholarship? UT is notoriously stingy with merit money. There are a couple of high profile scholarships, but that is it. If you do well once there, more opportunities for merit money are available.

Baylor has a very different campus culture than UT. There is mandatory chapel, and old fashioned rules about behavior. How do you feel about that? Waco is also a much quieter town than Austin. Does that make a difference to you?

Are you an auto admit to UT?

In the UT thread there is talk about what GPA is required to transfer into business from other UT majors. have a look there and see what you think. Could you do it? Would you be happy as an Econ major while you work toward a transfer?

Money is pretty important to us, we’re a middle class family with and I have 2 more siblings with one about to go to college in 2 years. And I highly doubt it, as much as I want to be a Longhorn I’m not stupid enough to throw myself into financial hell for the next few decades, so if Baylor is cheaper , then to Baylor I go. And the atmosphere’s of both schools and cities have been something I’ve been extensively researching as well, I’m Christian so if anything the bible verses would only be a pleasant experience and probably wouldn’t change how I acted whether I went to UT, Baylor, BYU, or Berkeley haha. The one knock I have against Baylor is exactly that though, I’m looking for a fun, vibrant city like Austin to start college and unfortunately Waco is hardly that. And yes I am an auto admit, and I wouldn’t like being an Econ major whatsoever as I ironically hate the subject with every ounce of my being, but if it somehow helps my case to get into McCombs then I might have some pondering to do.

First of all, wait and see if you get into McCombs. Then I’d try to make one last visit to each school. If you really want to study business, and you don’t get into McCombs, you like Baylor, and it is affordable then that is certainly a good option. There is certainly a difference between studying economics and getting a business degree so that should alsolutely weigh into your final decision.

That sounds good, thank you very much!
