BB Pg 88 #10

<p>Can someone explain sentence completion question #10 from the blue book, page 88? I don't understand what the sentence is saying.</p>

<p>I would say "against the corruption of those"
The second blank is tricky, but you know its an adj describing authors. In the sentence, "defending against" alludes to contrast; you need a word that is opposite of stern or authoritarian.</p>
