BB problem

I think, I found controversy between Kaplan Writing Textbook and BB ( 2nd ed),but I'm not sure. Take a look at Practice Test 2 sec.6 Q24 (error ID). According to Kaplan "hardly anyone"would be error since it's double negative. But the answer is different (no error)

Original Question:

Despite the efforts of the publicity subcommittee, hardly anyone attended the workshop that had been planned so painstakingly.

a)despite
b)hardly anyone
c)had been
d)so painstakingly
e)no error

How is “hardly anyone” a double negative? I think “hardly anyone” is grammatically correct. “hardly no one” would be the double negative.

i thought hardly anyone is double negative, sorry Collegeboard :D

“hardly anyone” is not a double negative; there’s nothing wrong with that sentence.
