BBC-World's Top College Towns

BBC - Travel - Living in: Great university towns : Living in..., England

I looked at the article only to confirm my prediction that Madison, WI was mentioned. Having lived there for many years, I can attest that it is a pleasant place, but there are so many places I would rather live, including where I live now. And Kingston, Ontario? Again, it is a pleasant place to spend a couple of days, but not where I would want to settle down.

I just saw this! I wasn’t surprised Madison made the list either, although the article and accompanying photos don’t do much to sell the city.

I actually feel the opposite of you, coase. I think it is the PERFECT place to raise a family, but not as great for people who want a more vibrant urban environment.

Madison is a great place to be a student in. Also a great place to grow up in. The BBC article also gives a nod to four other cities worldwide in England, Chile, Sweden and Canada. This for university towns, not overall cities et al.

I love the city of Madison. Both my parents went to school there and met there. But I decided the university there wasn’t for me for my undergrad program.
However, while trying to figure out grad schools, I sent a message to my cousin who is doing her PhD in chemistry at UW-Madison. After giving me lots of useful advice, though, she ended by saying, “Actually, just forget all of that. Just come to Madison. It’s the best.”

H and I just did a getaway weekend in Madison and had a great time. I can definitely see the appeal.
