I'm currently a freshman in Boston College's Carroll School of Management, and although I never applied to Notre Dame, I'm sick of listening to people say that Notre Dame was their top choice. Coming out of school, I never thought about applying to ND, and now it seems as if everyone here applied there. I kind of regret not applying there and was wondering whether or not you guys think I could have gotten into Mendoza.

I went to Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, a private boarding school. The average GPA to get into Boston College was a 3.31 and the average SAT was a 2026. Out of 170 students, 90 had been accepted over the past five years to Boston College. At Notre Dame, the average GPA was a 3.36 with a 2193 SAT. Out of 21 kids, 6 had been accepted. I was a first generation, low income minority with a 3.1 GPA and 1850 SAT with various leadership positions and Varsity sports. I'm not really that happy at BC and am considering applying to transfer to ND.

Hard to say whether you would have gotten in. Your GPA and test scores are well below the norm for acceptance into ND, yet being a first gen applicant certainly would have helped. I would say apply to transfer. The only applicant who definitely doesn’t get in is the one who doesn’t apply. One word of caution, however. Unless I am mistaken, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, but Mendoza does not accept transfer students, so you would most likely have to apply to Arts and Letters.

You don’t mention what your gpa is at BC. I think for a transfer your current course of study and your current grades carry a lot of weight. Even though you came from a prestigious high school, your high school grades and sat were on the low side so not sure whether or not you would have been admitted last year. If I had to bet, I would tend to say no. I believe that ejcclc is correct. Mendoza does not accept transfers. Just curious, what is it about BC that you don’t like? Carroll is a great school.

If you plan on transferring, be careful about what courses you are taking this year. Somewhere along the way I heard/read/learned that the course work undertaken should be similar to that of 1st year students at ND. Call admissions with any questions that aren’t answered on the website - they don’t bite. Good luck!

While you could apply for a transfer, be aware that Mendoza doesn’t accept transfers. They don’t let you do an internal transfer once you’re accepted, either.

They have transfer counselors at ND that can guide you on how the process works. BC is a great school, so don’t sell it short. You are getting a top notch education and you should be proud of yourself and BC. Best of luck!
