BC Student Here

is it easy as a freshman to find parties and drink though?

haha, drink, that got deleted pretty quickly. There are TONS of great schools that aren't on that list, so I wouldn't take it too personally.

I'm so excited to be an eagle next fall!

I want to ask about financial aid at BC. Certain schools in Mass offer generous financial aid for their students in freshman years, but as they entering their 2nd and 3rd years, their aids is fill with loans instead of grants. By the time time they get to their last year, half of their aid is all loans. And yet the student's family financial situation remain the same through out the four years of college. Does BC do this? Or are they consistence with their financial aid if the student's financial situation remain the same?

I know that there have been plenty of threads on "what to bring to college," but could any of you suggest some BC-specific things?

Is it worth buying season tickets? (Is that a dumb question?)

Thanks for all of your help.

You absolutely have to buy season tickets when they send you the form during the summer--especially with the move to the ACC. Football, basketball and hockey will all sell out, and they are really fun to watch! They aren't very expensive for the students, and are well worth the price!

if you dont buy season tickets to all of the sports dont even bother going to bc we dont want you

BC specific things...

Warm coats, and boots for everyday in the winter. You're bound to walk through snow or slush or water or something most days unless you dont mind walking through that stuff in sneakers.

Get a couch, prefereably used off Craiglist.org Boston, for your room that you wont mind being trashed. Bunk the beds, and it can be a sweet setup with the right tv/speakers/video games. Its nice to have.

If you're a Red Sox fan at all, get a hat if you don't already have one. Aside from your superfan shirt/BC bookstore clothing, its the second most ubiquitous item on campus.

Let me not forget the most important thing, hot chocolate. Not only will it warm you up in the winter or during a cold night of a long session of, uh, studying, it's a great way to invite guy/girl over to your room when coming home from a party late night. And no I'm not kidding, I am that pathetic, and it has worked for me more than a few times.

Regarding the question as to how hard is it as a freshman to party/find parties, I would say not at all. There is ALWAYS a party in Cleveland Circle (where the off-campus apartments are) and the Mods (on-campus senior-only housing). If you want to get drunk, you will not have a problem finding a place to do so.

im scared to bring my yankee gear up there... im sorry but i cant stand the red sox.

Then I can't stand you.

Seriously though, there is a decently large population of Yankee fans here. There are lots of kids from NJ,NY and CT so I wouldn't be worried about that.

Regarding buying season tickets, if you want to go to games (which are awesome events...definitely worth going to for football, hockey, and basketball), buy them now because they will definitely sell out. If you think you may not want to go to all of them, don't worry, you'll be able to find someone to buy your tickets whenever you don't go.

are you talkin about bc games or professional teams?

I was asking about BC games.

bc sports... good luck getting tickets to a sox or pats game less than 2 years in advance

I want to get a BC Superfan shirt but I couldn't find it online. I think I'm taking a visit up there next Friday so hopefully the bookstore has them. Anyway, what do you suggest doing when I visit?

http://www.bcbookstore.com/ePOS?this_category=34&store=202&item_number=SuperFanTShirt&form=shared3%2fgm%2fdetail%2ehtml&design=202

probably better to buy it at the bookstore itself to see if the size looks ok.

Another dorm question --

Does each room have a bathroom? Do you share a bathroom with a floor or something?

You can get Superfan t-shirts at the bookstore, but all entering freshmen will get one at their Orientation over the summer. Each class year has its own "motto" on the back, and everyone wears them to games, and some other events!

Most freshman dorms have shared hall bathrooms. A few rooms in some of the dorms are suites with a bathroom.

While you're here, walk around and check out the different buildings; from Babst Library (2nd floor especially) to Gasson (1st floor chamber) to any others in the main quad. Come up to Upper Campus and check out the dorm rooms, talk to any freshman/soph and I'm sure they wouldn't mind showing you their room, and you'll get a good idea of how much space you'll have and what to bring.
On Friday, check out the dustbowl (just ask a student, they'll point you in the right direction) for activites that should be going on 4-7ish; and Sunday there is a pep rally for student runners in the marathon. Check out ugbc.org for more details on events, the right side of the page has stuff listed for whats going on on campus.

Hey Drink....

Since you are from Philly, what is the difference between Villanova and BC in your opinion? Are they similar schools academically and socially? Or is one better than the other?

Thanks for your input
