Hey everyone, I was accepted early action and visited BC a few weeks ago. I spent one day and one night on their main campus. I really liked the academics, people, life etc. Unfortunatly I didn’t have time to visit the Newton campus, I know its just a place for freshman to live and the bc law school; but I really have no inforamation about it. Is anybody here familiar enough with Newton to comment on its: Dorms, bathrooms, size, amount of green area (tree’s open fields), FOOD!, general quality of life, difficulty because of distance from main campus(if applicable), and anything else you may want to add. Thanks :)

We drove to the Newton Campus during Eagle weekend and walked around. It is very green, spacious and hilly. There are woods and playing fields. The library is impressive, and there are a few nice old mansions, but most of the buildings are nondescript. No soaring gothic towers here. We did not eat at the dining hall but it looked nice as well. We did not enter any of the dorms so I cannot comment on how they compare with those on the main campus.

which campus is better for freshman?

My friend is on Newton and a lot of people there basically say the same thing. Taking the bus is a huge pain, especially if you're late for class. It takes an extra 20 mins to get to Comm Ave if you happen to be really unlucky. But other than that, it's not that bad. You really get to know everyone there. The dorms are much smaller so you actually get to know everyone on your floor, unlike at Main where there are a hundred people on one floor. There are ups and downs to both. There isn't really a better.

My daughter, who is now a senior, dormed at Newton, and all five of her suitemates this year were from her floor at Newton. She did say the worst thing about it was the bus.

So my son, who is a freshman, started out on Upper Campus this year. He wasn't pleased with his dorm situation -- he was placed on a special housing floor and those kids had already cliqued before school even started because they spent the summer together. He wanted to change dorms, but the only opening was at Newton and he wanted to stay on Upper. Well, he finally got desperate and accepted a Newton placement a few weeks ago, and he seems to really like it. He does miss Upper, and would have loved to have stayed there but in a different dorm, but he likes Newton just fine.
