Top three choices are Boston College Honors (no $$), UMich Honors (10K/year), UCLA (5K/year). Other options are safeties Marquette (20K/year), UGa honors (17K/year). Location/weather is less important than overall academic value. Future plans are law school and possibly working in DC. Opinions on best choice?

What state are you in?(paying out of state for UCLA may not be worth it, if say you're in state for Mich or Georgia)

Will you or your parents have to take out loans just for undergrad, or is your family financially well off to the point where they can pay tuition every year without needing to adjust their lifestyle?

The answers to both those questions will help us help you.

Not in state for any of the state schools. Family can pay tuition, but the higher the undergrad tuition, the less will be available for law school.

Law school? Save money now. UGA Honors is an amazing program.

So, let us get the numbers straight:

BC = $50,000/year
UCLA = $45,000/year - $5/year = $40,000/year
Michigan = $45,000/year - $10,000/year = $35,000/year
UGA = $35,000/year - $17,000/year = $18,000/year

I would say go for Michigan if you want to attend an elite university or Georgia if you want to save a lot of money while still attending a good university.

^ Is Michigan elite? :p

Cost of Attendance

$51,750 - 0 = $51,750 for Boston College HONORS
$45,741 - $5000 = $40,741 for UCLA
$44,761 - $10,000 = $34,761 for U Michigan HONORS
$33,070 - $17,000 = $16,070 for U Georgia HONORS

Given the above, I think that BC would be hard to justify unless you need a smaller environment and can't deal with the large size of the others. And I also think that the cost benefit of U Georgia is material and, given your law school aspirations, definitely worth considering.

For UCLA/U Michigan/U Georgia, they are very equal in size (25-26,000 undergrads) and each offers the big state university college experience. Statistically, UCLA and U Michigan are two sides of the same coin, but different locales would lead to materially different undergrad experiences and you would have to judge how you like the people/personalities at those schools. Clearly U Georgia has a less strong overall student body although the student quality differences evaporate when you compare the Honors students. You'd have to determine whether the intimacy of the Honors programs benefits you sufficiently to make that a deciding element in your analysis.

For the actual choice, I'd second ElizaB's conclusion and recommend U Georgia. If you perform well in the classroom, it can be a great feeder for law schools and their Honors program is known for its placement strength into a great breadth of opportunities, including in DC. And an extra benefit to U Georgia is that you'd get a quality football team to go along with your matriculation!

Good luck with your choice-no matter where you go, I'm willing to bet that you're going to have a great four years.

"Is Michigan elite?"

Et tu UCB? Then, fall Alex!

Alexandre is GOD. lol. :D
