Thanks so much for the comments…I’m sure that there are so many of us in this same situation. Should have titled this “private vs public universities”…and received even more comments. All the comments certainly offer food for thought!!! Maybe I should start another one???
College is vastly different than HS. btw- being public doesn’t mean lesser opportunities for top students, plus, as a grown up girl, I think he missed out on some intense and highly intellectual STEM girls like myself and my peers. His loss.
He may well settle for a lesser school because of misperceptions about public flagships versus private schools. He should also realize that there is a top tier in the flagships- those who could succeed at the most elite colleges in the nation. There are plenty of students who are ordinary at top tier private schools as well. I’ve only heard of Wake Forest here on CC- I guess it does well for its region as does BC. All depends on where you live. If Indiana be thankful you have a top B school.
We are in Ohio close to Miami university but he is more interested in IU. Also says he’d like to graduate in 3 years and apply to law school…not sure how that would work. Anyone?..I guess it depends on whether or not the classes are available?
Thanks all! He attends IU! It’s going great!..
This is a great time to visit the campus by the way. Good luck to your child!
Congrats!
@boseownr I guess I don’t understand in practical day to day terms what a “Jesuit experience” means – that said $35 - $40k a year difference is GIGANTIC! You could send two more kids to college with that money. It would be a no brainer for me.
