Be cautious when giving essays to others

HAHAHA! Taking credit for others work...shame on you sr6622! :p

I think sr6622 thinks they're a funny man.

Ha ha :p

I'm not taking credit....I didn't see any name on it.....

PLus, I was like "grateful bhikku"...hhmm...who could that be?

So, I was like "Well...I guess it is me now."

Don't hate sr6622, hate the other players in the game.

Jvhowube:

i just checked volleyball's posts, there are like 20 posts that say that he/she will read/critique other people's essays. sounds suspious, i think.

yeah, but then his first post is like his stats, and where he goes to school, and asking about his safeties, and he like responded to one of my PM's the other day, saying "i couldnt read your essay cause i wasnt home when you sent it, ill get to it" or something, but nothing since then...

i feel like he got like 15 essays that night...mine was very personal though, talks about how im a hippy liberal weirdo...

bah i dunno...oh well, the deadline for the school was today anyway... and it was for a scholars program, so it was a specific question, only for that school...

oh good. do u know carolyn? i sent my essays to her and she is seriously the BEST. if i get in to my schools it will definitely be because of her.

no i dont know her. i just sent lqvolleyball a PM saying "tell me what youre doing with me essay - critiquing it or selling it - i wanna know either way. just tell me."

whatever, i sent it in already...im just ****ed off that i was so dumb to send it to someone i dont even konw....argh...at least it wasnt my common app essay...

I sent my commapp short answer to Carolyn, she really is the best.

*thanks for the tip on telling people if you're not going to read it that second. I'm bad about that

it's because of what volleyball did that i decided to post this. lousy thief.

carolyn is a high school counselor in....california i think. she's really good, though i got no reply from her. :(

Yea, don't act when you're going "OMGOMGOMG I just finished another one wheee!$#!11" Breathe and think it through first.

Still, the best advice I often have for the essays I did critique is, "See your English teacher." for grammar, mechanics, more complicated problems, and just as someone who knows you ...

Have any of you been to Carolyn's website? Lots of nice info, and it's all written in a way teenagers can understand. And I really adore the links she has. :D

But now I've been given a deadline by my counselor of when to complete all my essays. :o

just send it to people who are already in college or adults. its impossible to be 100% sure but if someone has 500+ post counts and is already in college or an alumni i'd say its safer

Yeah agreed with above....

Also, for those whom were not affected by my pathetic sarcasm, I was kidding around. I didn't take any essays and use them for my own.

My suggestion is to keep a short list of people whose posts you admire. Then, when you have an essay, consider asking those people to review it. A request along the lines of "I've admired your posts and value your opinion, would you consider reading my essay?" would IMO be well-received by many posters on CC.

it really depends on the essay. if the essay is unique and personal enough, then it can be stolen.

In my opinion, you never know who anybody is in these forums. Sending your essay can be real dangerous, and if your essay is used by somebody else, universities will consider both applicants as having committed academic dishonesty. Approach your English teacher or an adult that you think knows you well, and have them read your essay over! Best of luck to all the applicants out there :)

What about those at essayforum.com ?
lol…
I mean, there are so many essays online there for everyone to see. And you have to pay to delete which is really really annoying (but smart)

I posted my UChicago essay at essayforum.com to get a general impression of it and deleted it soon afterward. It helped a lot, but now I’m terribly worried that someone may have stole what was an original idea…
