Bearfacts Registration Fee Summary

My registration fee summary looks like this:
BERKELEY CAMPUS...................................$250.75
STMT OF INTENTION TO REGISTER FEE.....$100.00
HEALTH INSURANCE..................................$0.00
EDUCATIONAL..........................................$4,701.00
CLASS PASS FEE - TRANSIT.......................$68.00
STUDENT SERVICES FEE...........................$350.00

My balance states that I owe $5,369.75, but shouldn't I owe $5,269.75(100 dollars less) since the statement of intent payment was a deposit, not a fee?

“You may accept admission to one campus only. You may not transfer your acceptance from one campus to another after you declare your intent to register. A $100 nonrefundable deposit must accompany your acceptance.”

It should. Did you scroll down? There’s a section below where they take your $100 into account.

Mine says:

BERKELEY CAMPUS $250.75

EDUCATIONAL FEE - NON-RESIDENT $5,130.00
NONRESIDENT - UG $11,010.50
CLASS PASS FEE - TRANSIT $68.00
STUDENT SERVICES FEE $350.00

Total
Assessed: $17,670.25

Balance: $17,570.25

Yeah meAKAme, but if you think about it, they’re deducting $100 from the $100 ‘STMT OF INTENTION TO REGISTER FEE’ they included. So technically, you just paid $100 to relieve a fee, but the SIR payment should have been a deposit.

I think it’s a fee of some sort. The use of the term ‘deposit’ causes confusion.
I’m in the same situation as meakame though.

Haha Sagert, the name is a joke. I made it way back when I was a kid for fun, and it’s just easier to have the same username for everything…

Maybe they deducted $100 from one of the other fees, just that they didn’t specifically mention it. Why don’t you email them and ask?

Kk, doing that~

I got to the bottom of this.

The Student Services Fee (previously called the registration fee) is $450. They listed it as $350. That accounts for the missing $100. Although they said that the deposit would be applied to the educational fees (tuition), looks like they apply it to student services fee instead. Still, gets to the same correct answer for balance due.

[Registration Fees - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Registration/feesched.html)

Accounted for in a more normal way, the fees due for a semester for an in-state undergrad are:

Student Services $450.00
Education (tuition) $4,701.00
Campus $250.75
Transit $68.00
Health $0.00 (since you waived it)
Total $5,469.75
less SIR deposit $100.00
Balance due $5,369.75

The bizarre thing is that they list the SIR deposit as if it is another fee, thus have to knock down the Student Services fee to reconcile it.

Ahh, I see what they did there.

Nice work, detective.

It was quite an enigma. Pleasant puzzle for a Sunday afternoon.
