Thanks for the report! Awesome! Steve has his mom's looks, my brains and my wise guy persona.

I can't wait to see the pix. You rock dear. BTW I asked Steve if you had a thick southern drawl. Nope...so don't go all southern belle on us here darlin...haha.

I'm killing myself I couldnt' be there dammitol.

Great pics.. What camera/lens are you using... good clarity.

Congrats to 4th co ... great spirit... I especially liked the skull spiked to the 4th co flag... hahaha. (Yes, I'm partial to 4th co, but is really was great)

umm, Jamzmom.. WHY does the whole series begin with that decadent dessert? (and, do you photograph them for the restaurant menus? ... I'd like THAT job)

haha, jamzmom "bagged". Glad to see the tradition still lives. I'll never forget the day that someone "bagged" Admiral Mattison (Supe prior to Stewart).

Now I must confess my friends at home did not understand the fun of that game at all. I don't get it, they are missing out on serious fun, haha.

Boss, according to one of my buddies who does crew they messed up the start times of all but one the CGA boats so they didnt have an official time

They did change the starting times of the soccer and football games. These sports share the same fields and they needed to "clean-up" the field between games. In the end it all worked it way out and both sides played hard.

Took me forever to find a second to sit down & do some video. Apparently my family goes running around like a herd of feral cats any time I leave home so I had to round them all up again before I could play with you tube. They aren't great but whatcha gonna do. Half the time I had Plebes screaming in my ears & squishing me. :)

And Boss….. thanks for ruining my whole southern belle image. I was only speaking clearly so that the Yankees could understand me. Ya’ll.

suzannegra, maybe we could start a "No Bagging Moms" campaign. Its so not cool.

Bossf51- The spring does not work for us that well because of a lot of factors. A) The 2/c are at sea typically a good portion on the team. For example: The 4 that I was in last year that beat CGA and we got 3rd at Head of the Charles, which is a big deal. The other 3 rowers were 2/c and were not here in the spring. B) The 3/c who just got back from sea have two hinderences 1) 3rd trimester 3/c year for both deck and engine is one of the most difficult trimesters 2) Not all ships have adequate equipment or available time because of sea projects. CGA also has a larger team than we do. We were going to be able to have one 8 and one 4, but after injuries and heavy academic loads with officer duties, we are down to two 4's. CGA has two 8's and a 4 on their varsity team. The spring team is adequately undermanned compared to other schools, therefore we focus on the Head of the Charles which is a very prestigious regatta. Don't be surprised if you see USMMA as a medalist again this year.

Also: There was two other CGA boats in the Open 4, but I don't know why they did not get times. I knew they raced but I don't know what the deal was. I know I have to think my coxswain for maneuvering us two boats that had us blocked in on the only turn. That 1 second should have been more but we had to power down to make the turn. And I think this is the first year in a while that rowing is counting in the Secretaries Cup. We've been told that it is, so not totally for sure.

You may be thinking of the Superintendent's Trophy.

In 2003, the schools jointly established the Superintendents Trophy. This contest pits USCGA against USMMA but for the entire academic year. One point is awarded to the winning school after each match, giving all sports equal weight. The school with the highest score is presented with the Superintendent's Trophy in a halftime ceremony at the Secretaries' Cup football game, with the winning school keeping possession of the trophy until the next year. USCGA has won the Superintendent's Trophy every year since its inception.

According to the latest schedule for this academic year, rowing is NOT included.

The 13 events that make up the Superintendent's Trophy are:

Yeah, I meant the Superintendent's Trophy. Just what I was told, and this was the first year that anyone actually cared about rowing, so it definitely made it seem like it was accepted.

Nothing better than crew...I regret that son had to back off due to...his back. Poor guy.

I came to love the sport and still do; those are the hardest working athletes at the Academy I'm thinking. At CGA it is known as the "Crew Cult." Great bunch of kids, coaches and facilities. We manage to hold our own against the Big Boys in Division III year after year, Trinity, Wesleyan and Williams, who actively "recruit" which we do not.

HOCR is a great event. Go there sometimes folks even if you don't know your quad from your four. Biggest party in Boston in October...great weather, bands, and food. Super atmosphere.

If you beat the CGA four that is saying something...they were Silver Medalists at last year's National Invitational, the NCAA's of small college rowing. Lost by hundredths of a second to Wesleyan I believe.

KPR I get where you are coming from on the spring aspect. But that is when rowing gets really good, head to head matchups.

Are you guys going to Shelton in a couple weeks? Best small head race in my not so humble opinion. I think I saw you there last year.

MMA folks I come over here to play since the CGA board is weak on this forum. We have such a good parent's list serv going that I think that is why they stay away.

Yeah, those backs definitely get you. One of the guys that could be in four this fall tore a disc in his back which is not putting pressure on the cystic (sp?) nerve. He's out and right now they are trying to get him cleared for sea. I've been rowing with him since Plebe year. I've had my fair amount of back issues also.

I know what you're saying about holding our own. I think we have like 4 maybe 5 rowers (varsity and novice) that rowed before here.

With the spring, we have spring training to get back in rowing shape and get some water time since the Long Island Sound is not forgiving in March and April (or this fall for that matter).

We are not making it up to Shelton. The whole money issue is definitely putting a big damper on where we go. We were there last year and yeah that was a frustrating race. We got a bunch of seaweed (kelp...whatever it is) stuck on our rudder steering us in the port direction and ended up snapping the nylon line and we had to finish the last 750 or so with us ports rowing harder....not fun. CGA definitely thought that Mystic last year was a fluke because of that. Then we proved everyone wrong by only getting beat out by Michigan and University of British Columbia at the Charles. We led till the last split....which made us really mad. But maybe, I'll run into you at the Charles.
