Also, if you read today's sports section in the LA times, they have interviews with various ppl (Pete, Matt, and Reggie) explaining why they did that move. Basically, they were tired.

Yeah, the articles said something to the terms of "they didn't want a repeat of USC's last loss, which was in overtime on 9/27/03 at Cal. They went into overtime when USC kicked a field goal in the last seconds of regulation."

Pete Carroll also said that ND had been playing too well on offense to risk going into overtime. But, yeah, there's a reason Carroll has the nickname "Big Balls Pete". He didn't want to go into overtime.

Either way, stupid play call. You don't risk losing when you could have one shot at passing in the end zone, and if worst comes to worst, you tie it with a field goal. I don't know many other people who would have called that play.

devils67...yeah it was stupid and risky, but thats what you gotta do--take risks. like we were gonna repeat the cal game again? I dont think so!!

anyway, i was sprawled out on the floor, hysteric, crying (almost), screaming, cussing, hitting, jumping...and i don't even go there...yet. =)

my God that better not happen ever again. i really can't handle the stress, and I really don't want a heart attack. go trojans. yayuhhh!!

Many college football teams are willing to take a risk for the win. i.e. going for the two point conversion at the end of the game for a win.

They were tired.

Leinart has that much confidence in his offensive line

Notre Dame's offense was on a roll

their only loss in the past two seasons was in overtime

they've got balls

USC displayed valor in the fullest sense. I am so bloody proud of the Trojans and their intrepid behaviour. I am so fortunate to be able to say this is the school that I go to.
