Bed Lofting

I'm moving in this year to a single in Dickson. I know there are only a few bed lofting kits available, and they have all been claimed already. Before I go out and buy one from an outside store, it would be very helpful to know what the beds are like originally.
-How much room is there underneath the bed to begin with?
-Is lofting unnecessary?
-Would I be able to put the width of check-in luggage pieces underneath without lofting? Thanks!

The beds can be adjusted by height without lofting, certainly enough to hold a trunk, etc. Lofting is useful if you want a lot more space, like if you want your desk under your bed or something.
