not sure if this has been asked before but..

can the beds (im in a de neve double if that matters) be raised or are they set at one height? I know some of my friends at other schools have adjustable beds to create more storage. If not, how much space is underneath the typical bed?

The De Neve double beds have the largest amount of under-bed space anywhere - they're raised slightly less than three feet off the ground. Even if you wanted to adjust them, you wouldn't gain any more space because they're already raised to the hilts of the bedposts.

OMFG is that the new policy this year Icarus?!? Is this because they were tired of doing it? It's not like we adjusted it for free so they essentially banked off of lifting the beds- or is it because of some safety concerns for the people who did the lifting? I lived in Evergreen (de neve) last year and my bed when I moved in was not lifted at all (at the lowest notch possible)- there was probably half an inch of space above my costco/kirkland box of water I stored it under there until I requested to raise it. If you can't adjust the beds, will they at least make sure that all are lifted somewhat above the very bottom notch, because I know for a fact from looking at the rooms on my floor last year that not all beds started at the same height, with quite a few at the same height as me and my roommate's bed.

no they won't change them from where they already are - some are higher than others. But they won't change them from what they are currently anymore. The rumor is that the reaosn is that some moron was drunk and fell out of a lofted bed and tried to sue or something to that effect. %@&*(!@ litigious society we live in where people don't take responsibility for what they do.

:Sigh: You gotta love this sue-happy society. Well if my bed this year is the same height my bed started at last year, I'm going to go out and collect phone books or buy wooden blocks to stick under those 4 wooden legs, because the storage space was horrendous without the extra space under the bed (btw- is it just me or does it seem that just about evey other UC dorm is larger than ours?).

hmm.. rieber vista beds can be lifted higher than their normal height. just bring some tools like screw drivers and you'll be able to do it. if not.. 3rd floor people welcome week assistants have tools. haha. also in rieber vista, the beds are about 1-2 feet off the ground.

all the wooden beds on campus are the same and can be adjusted with some tools; you could even bunk them if you wanted
as long as you don't bunk them or completely loft a bed, i don't think they care which height its at.
