Been there, Done that!

My son is a freshman @ Marist. Last year we were at the exact spot most of you are now. Deciding and full of questions. I would be most happy to answer whatever I can regarding his life @ Marist , or our road getting to it. You can send me a personal message, or post here on the forum for all to see. Last year a wonderful Marist student took me "under her wing" and it was most helpful, and I'd like to pay-it-forward so to speak! Also, it really does get better!

I read you response in another thread: “If your student has AP credits they are given priority selection…” My son has passed 2 AP tests so far, got a “3” on one so they might not take it and a “5” on English Language and Comp. Does this mean he gets to register for all his classes before students without AP credits?

Is the FOCUS class worthwhile? My son is undecided and is very interested in it.

Thanks for your help. Marist is currently at the top of is list but he’s waiting for 2 regular decision schools, which quite honestly, might not be as good a fit.

Yes, actually that was new this year, so assuming they continue the practice, anyone with AP credits gets an earlier time to register-(registration is all online) and a better chance of getting the class/time they want. Marist requests the AP test scores sent from College Board, and then they will tell you which they accept, and the cost is $50 per credit (most courses are 3 credits), and once you have paid, your student is given priority registration, and also “tests” out of the AP courses already mastered. Each discipline has a different score requirement, but I know the 5 will be accepted! kudos! The FOCUS group is well worth it- it has helped my son immensely, and their advisor is also part of that FOCUS group so its really a nice way to get through your first year, there is a registration fee (haha) this year it was $75. They do get course credit however as well.
