beginning 2 yrs of high school *Screwed Up*

I really messed up my first two years of high school.
The subjects weren't hard, but the people in my high school were too stupid and the course work going to slow for me to really be motivated... you take my meaning???

I'm in Canada. I'm female and Chinese.
Anyway, here are my marks:

<a href="http://www.geocities.com/harveyharlington/IU.JPG%5B/img%5D">http://www.geocities.com/harveyharlington/IU.JPG

My terrible grades, especially in the latter Grade 10 sophomore year was a result of a lack of motivation and diligence.
I swear on my life to change.
I'm doing the make-up course for the grade 10 Math, so that mark will go up.

If my marks increase for Grade 11 and 12, and I do all this mad volunteering and club-joining, do you think I'll have a shot at the Ivy League or Oxbridge??

Thanks.

Hello? BUMP.

Hey I'm from Canada too. I think your sophomore year grade just killed your chances...I was unmotivated in grade 9 and 10 too but I still managed to achieve ~90% in a prep school so there is no excuse I guess :/

yea problem here.....9th grade killed me......my gpa never recovered from that......i finsihed with a 90% :)

but 90% from a canadian school is decent, that gets you a top decile ranking at some schools

But I'm not talking about Canadian universities- those universities are really easy to land a place in.

I'm talking about Ivy and Oxbridge.

Is there a chance they'll overlook my Grade 9 and 10 years and look at my excellent latter years of high school, and my volunteering and school participation?

I meant 90% from canadian HIGH SCHOOLS are great

I have a friend who is in a similar situation; he has a 4.0 for junior year, but overall averages to less than a 3.0... he sort of grew up, you know? I don't know how all of us manage to do so well in school when we are going through so much other stuff, but colleges don't look at it like that....

ivy and oxbridge? are you a good test taker, lots of extracurriculars, does something stand out about you, do you have money, how bad were the grades

Again, Is there a chance they'll overlook my Grade 9 and 10 years and look at my excellent latter years of high school, and my volunteering and school participation? I'll die if they won't.

9th grade for any college will be overlooked if you show sum serious upward trend. But 10th...dats pushing it

They won't overlook it. Maybe if you do well they won't hold it against you, but those scores will always be there, and they will for sure take note of them. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but no sense in sugar coating. You have to keep in mind that this is 1/2 of your highschool preformance, in fact, its 2/3rd of what colleges will see when you apply. If you think about it that way, you'll see that its a little too late to start adding ecs and better grades in the hopes oflanding an acceptance. You can always transfer though.

Uhh.... are these all Regular classes? If so, sorry you just shot your chances down :(

Yeah, they are just normal courses. :( They were so damn easy, but that's the whole thing- things numbing my brain and tiring me out in their tedium.

But are you all sure that even if I do a superb interview, have exceptional written work, take AP classes in Grade 11 and 12 (and get like 100%) and get practically perfect SATs, that I don't have a shot at all?

You'll have a shot, but your chances won't be very good at all. Sadly, you got low marks in average classes, that won't bode well for admissions officers.

I don't think Ivies are too forgiving, but perhaps if you're a great writer/speaker, you can plead your case. And showing a dramatic upward trend. No one can say for sure.
