behavioral neuroscience anyone?

Has anyone heard anything good/bad about this program? I was accepted into it and I'm not sure if i want to attend. I got into syracuse so far (but they dont have neuroscience majors) and im waiting on bu bc and nyu. Any thoughts on whether I should go or not? Oh yeah, I'm also going for pre-med.

I'm a BNS major. The program is really strong, and there are some good research and co-op opportunities. It's also great for pre-meds because it covers all pre-reqs except physics.

You take tons of science (bio, chem, o-chem, calc 1 & 2, biochem, genetics), some psychology, and neuroscience courses. The psych classes I've had have all been pretty good and right now I'm in psychobiology which is the best class I've ever had, with easily the best professor I've ever had.

I don't think it's THE reason to attend NU, because I'm sure your other schools would have great programs as well. But we do have a good program, and at least for me, the fact that I get to co-op in the field is really, really exciting.

I'm interested in both behavioral neuroscience and psychobiology. Maybe someone (Emily?) could clarify them a little because I'm considering majoring in psychobio but not sure.

They're the same thing, but psychobiology isn't a major, just a class. Both just look at the biological aspects of psychology.

Within the major you have some freedom to focus more on either psychology or actual neurobiology. Everyone takes a core of very basic psychology and a heavy load of science, but electives vary a lot. For example, I take more sciences courses-- something like neuroanatomy or psychopharmacology, while someone else might take more behavioral courses like developmental psychology or psychology of aggression. Co-op also varies, some people go into more clinical work while others go into research.

I think this is what I'm gonna do if I go here.

Emily 2007, which college is behavioral neuroscience part of? My d has got into the Bouve College in the Pathways program but she is undecided if she eventually wants to go for the Physician Assistant program or Psychology so just thinking that this may be a good alternative. What would you be doing after getting your undergraduate degree, are there any job opportunities or would you just continue with your Masters? What type of co-ops are available for this major?

I believe Behavioral Neuroscience is part of the College of Arts & Sciences..

College of Arts and Sciences > Programs of Study

^It is CAS, so you'd want to talk to an advisor if you're thinking of a switch in schools. It can be done, but to get back into the PA program might be a bit difficult if you switch out.

Most BNS students go to grad school or med school. There are opportunities right out of school, but in the long run, the people at higher positions making more money are the ones with a higher degree than a bachelors.

Co-ops vary a lot. Some people work in clinical settings (obviously we can't "treat" people so it's a lot of assistant type work, true for undergrads anywhere), some do research. I had one friend do work in public health, one friend do auditory testing with kids at Children's, and one friend will be in South Africa doing research next fall. You have lots of options since the interests of BNS majors vary a lot.

Do you know who to contact at NEU that could correct the misspelling of this major on their website? I have been all over the college website and cannot for the life of me figure out who to notify!!!

lol - yes, tried that. How is that for irony? The email address, "error@neu.edu" is not a good address!
