I'm a vegan, and I've applied to Drew. I was wondering if were options for vegans at the school's dining hall(s)? I'm really a raw-veganist but I'm not too strict so I might consider going vegetarian if they don't have vegan dishes...maybe.

Interestingly, Drew has recently won recognition by PETA as one of the top vegetarian-friendly campuses in the US! (Unfortunately, they got tossed in the second round.) Here's a link that you might find interesting and useful with regard to good schools. Once you go to the site, you have to click on "US" to see the full list of original contenders.
My D is a vegetarian currently enrolled at Drew and her thoughts on this matter have been more mixed. I think the food service (Sodexho) is trying very hard and is making progress, but probably still has some room for improvement.

Final thought: Being a pure vegan would be very difficult just about anywhere.

Thanks for the speedy reply! Is your D pesco-vegetarian (i.e. she eats fish)? I think I'll be fine being vegetarian instead, just as long as I don't have to eat fish - a lot of vegetarian meals come with it, unfortunately. I guess there's always fruit if all else fails.

My high school used to be catered by Sodexho. They were good - not great - with the vegetarian stuff, and the vegan stuff was always a salad with no dressing which got boring.

Thanks, too, for the link. =] American University came first, and it's also one of my college choices.

D & I are both ovo-lacto vegetarians. No fish, but definitely eggs and dairy. I personally draw the line at something that was previously a living creature. I've never been able to understand how people who eat fish can describe themselves as vegetarian; but we all have to figure out where to draw the lines in our own lives. ;-)

There are many vegan options at Drew. In addition to daily vegan meals, there's a special vegan meal at Thanksgiving. A lot of attention is given to vegan food at Drew. We looked at vegan options at many schools and Drew is certainly one of the best

Sadly, this thread seems to have gone silent. :(

Before disappearing into the CC ether, I thought it was worth mentioning that "The Commons" (Drew's cafeteria) has been refurbished this year. I haven't been there in awhile, but the pix look like the space has definitely been spruced up. Also, they introduced a green "no trays" policy to save on water and electricity and reduce waste. Every little bit helps!
