Being an executive member

Hi,

I have absolutely no previous experience with being an exec member, but recently I somehow managed to be selected as a member of an events committee of a student society that initiates various community events, invites speakers, etc. After attending the first General meeting, I basically had to submit answers to a questionaire which asked questions like why I'm interested in becoming an events officer, what my strengths are, etc. Now that I'm selected as one of the three members in the events committee, I'm scared and worried. What if I don't do my part well and fail to serve my responsibility? Due to my complete lack of any executive or leadership experience, I feel that I lack the knowledge/idea base needed to be a good event officer. In a few days, I need to tell the club VP whether I will accept the position. Should I accept it? It's going to be a great learning experience and I'll be able to learn leadership skills, etc. If I don't do it now, I don't know when I will have such an opportunity again. For those of you who had previous leadership experience, how did you start out as one in the first place when you lacked the basic knowledge base?

Thanks.

Go for it, how else will you gain leadership experience unless you dive into it. Besides, I think that you will find that the biggest difficulty isn’t in leading, but getting people to maintain the motivation to follow. You probably really won’t be doing anything that has a lot of potential for doom and destruction if you make the wrong choice, so just do your best and try to get other students to give enough support to the decisions so that it doesn’t flounder.
