I guess since Blacks are around 11% of the population but make up 40% of the US Army, Blacks are more patriotic than everyone else.
For example, (dont quote me on this), there are 40+% asians at some california schools(stanford, ucla, berkeley)
The article OP linked to said,

Although Asians are 13 percent of the state[CA]s population, they make up 42 percent of students on the campus at Berkeley, 38 percent at Los Angeles and 61 percent at Irvine.

thats why at my calif. HS they called UCI the University of Chinese Immigrants

Honestly, yes. It is a disadvantage. You're compared with your ethnic group. And, the asian pool is the most competitive.

It isn't a disadvantage. Would everyone get off their lazy anuses, and realized stop making excuses?

public schools can't use your race against you in the admission prcess, but private schools defnitely can because it's a PRIVATE school, if they really wanted to take a person in but they had 2.0 gpa and 1000 sat, they surely could because the state can't controll them..plus the ivies always want to make sure that their schools look good - more diversity. so yeah minorities get advantage, although they don't say so

I assume that people are concerned about their chances at the Ivies...I would definitely say that Asians aren't at a Disadvantage! 20% Asian/Pacific Islander go to Harvard, compared to 9% Hispanic. That is more than double the amount of people. So stop whining. It's old

I don't think they are making excuses, just making note of the truth.

Your statement is ridiculous. Look and find out how many Asians applied for those 20% slots and how many Hispanics applied to the 9% slots. Furthermore, strictly speaking on terms of GPA/SAT, you'll find asian acceptees hovering at the 75% where as Hispanics would be hovering in 25%.

Where is your proof? I could say that the Hispanics are in the 75% and the Asians are in the 25%. We can argue over the fact that more Asian applicants applied, but the cold, hardcore fact is that more Asians got in than Hispanics.

so if i fit into that asian steretoype. shud i leave the ethnicity box blank? wud it help my chances?

WT F?! If you're Asian put Asian down....unless you're ashamed to be an Asian.

"I assume that people are concerned about their chances at the Ivies...I would definitely say that Asians aren't at a Disadvantage! 20% Asian/Pacific Islander go to Harvard, compared to 9% Hispanic. That is more than double the amount of people. So stop whining. It's old"

thats probably because more qualified asians applied. Lets analyze your claim about 20% asians and 9% hispanics:

This is a purely hypothetical situation
Lets say there are 10000 seats at Harvard.
Now lets say 4000 asians applied and 2000 were accepted (20% of total seats but 50% of asian applicants were admitted)

Lets say 1200 hispanics applied and 900 were accepted (9% of total seats but 75% of hispanic applicants were admitted)

Lets say all applicants were well qualified but their stats were hairs apart which got the lower ones rejected.

Obviously in this situation, asians were at a disadvantage. Of course, this could work the other way around. I'm not making a factual statement but I am trying to point out that you are also making a unsubstantiated claim that double the amount of asians as compared to hispanics are attending harvard. You are not taking into consideration the people who were rejected.

You can't really say that race was the issue. Maybe they felt like the Asian did everything textbook; took no chances. Maybe the adcom had a bad day? You can't make a strong point/case about this.

no, when harvard and other schools say they believe in diversity by bringing in URMs, they specifically are talking about the Hispanic/Black students.

glucose: stop being stubborn about it. when i have the time i will find facts. e-mail dave berry, the founder of this website and very knowledgable college admissions counselor and he will say the same.

FYI:

I don't get your point? Asians are getting into good schools...!

"You can't really say that race was the issue. Maybe they felt like the Asian did everything textbook; took no chances. Maybe the adcom had a bad day? You can't make a strong point/case about this."

Did everything textbook? So you're saying that getting a 1600 is textbook? Yea, I don't know what world you're talking about but in a real world, a 1600 is not very easy to get. And what do you mean by taking chances. Do you mean that the applicant should have gone skydiving?

"2. Hispanic Male
-4 Generation Harvard Legacy
-Drama/Football
-Top 25% Class
-SAT: <1400
-ACCEPTED"

This guy should have definitely been rejected. At the very most he should have been deferred.

and cheetah, leave the race box blank. it will not help you to put down asian. I'm asian too and I am leaving it blank. If your last name is an asian giveaway, at least keep them guessing. But don't put it down so that they know what your race is immediately.

This is SAD. You are a disgrace to your culture.
