Being Asian helps with admissions?

I read a study recently that Asians feel they have been discriminated in the admissions process among the most selective schools. Alot of asians are being turned down by the Harvards and Stanfords in favor of blacks and latinos, or other groups.

Being a Chinese American myself, I disagree 100%. I feel the data somehow misrepresent the truth behind college admissions. Among the diversity groups, I feel asian get the most benefits in the application process.

Asians account for 6% of the U.S. population, yet represent 15%-20% of the admissions among the elite schools. At the same time, black and latinos count for 25% of the population, yet only seen around 10% among the most competitive. Asians collectively have higher SAT scores, and better grades than any other groups.

If college simply look at numbers and not holistically or diversely, there would be more Asians. That is where Asians feel they been jipped. At the same time, they are already at a major advantage over other group in terms of percentage being admitted among the ethnicity group.

Yes, it is true there are Wangs being passed over for Mathias or Joses, but there have been alot more Chens being admitted over your typical Johns or Steves. Whites and Europeans, are the true victims in this process. They represent 65% of the US, yet usually short of 55% among the most selective.

Are you at a disadvantage?

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Closing thread. There is one, and only one, thread on which to discuss race in college admissions:

The fact that users violated ToS resulting in a temporary closing of that thread does not mean that the discussion continues elsewhere in the interim.
