Being in a regular class....

Because my other AP classes conflict with AP US History, I have to take regular US History. It breaks my heart every time I realize I'm in a regular class :'( but I can not do anything about it. People in my regular class are....underachievers. They talk about weed, sex,and disrespect their teacher. Not only that but the activities and lectures are ridiculous. How do you guys, intelligent ccers, feel about being in a regular class?

Hahaha

Classic Smarty

i was in regular global history and english for the 1st half of 9th grade.
In my English class…I sat next to a whole bunch of spanish-speaking kids.
In history…I sat next to a pregnant girl.
mid-year I transferred to honors (same teachers though).

mmm sex.

wish my ap classes were like that. instead its just posers and nubs. AP or regular, it all the same yo

Just deal with it. You’re going to come across many different types of people in life. I’m trying to say this in the nicest way possible, but just suck it up. I have to take a class this year where they combined standard level, academic (college level), and honors into one class because I chose not to take the AP class. It’s going to suck, but at the same time, just think about the less work you’re going to have to do.

I had the exact same problem. I had to take a regular US History/Politics class and it was an utter joke. At our school APUSH is the AP class that everyone takes. If you aren’t in APUSH, then you are either stupid, uninspired, or couldn’t fit it in your schedule(at my school). The class basically served as a study hall for me, or a chance for me to complete homework(It was 1st Period).
Take your “A” and ride into the sunset.

I think nothing of being in an honors class. You must go to a school where only a certain of people are smart which is ridiculous. The kids in my AP class were more inappropriate than those in regulars. My AP class and honors classes have been SUPER diverse. You should have heard the conversations we had in Honors English, something around the lines of "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (take the first letter of each word and you get…) The girl next to me spoke more Spanish than English & my friend was pregnant. Clearly the school you go to isn’t doing a good job at preparing you for the real world.

Swizzle said it best: Just deal with it.

Have you looked for any other option: taking it at another high school or a college, taking it online, taking it next year or during the summer?

Can you change your schedule and take another class next year?

Is there any chance the school will let you take an independent study with the AP material?

It’s a shame to waste the year. Besides, US history is a fascinating subject.

Yeah I had to take 1/4 classes like that. It was always a total waste of time, barely distinguishable from prison. The others in the class were exactly like you described, bothering me with crap like “Have you ever had sex with animals?” Bring work from other classes to pass the time, or a pillow and headphones.

@dfree124
-.- are you making fun of me? Gosh!..

I know… I love history. It’s so fascinating. I took AP Euro last year. So imagine going from that to this… It was the first day of school & we learned about how our brains work… -.- Like come on, if it was an AP class we wouldn’t even that the time to breathe lol. What sucks is I did the summer work for APUSH. Is taking a regular US history class limits my chance of getting into competitive colleges?

Regular classes suck. End of story.

Honestly, I generally don’t like regular classes, but I doubt that there will be absolutely nobody in your class whom you couldn’t become friends. Sometimes (academic) intelligence isn’t all that important.

^ actually 1/3 of the people in my class are my friends. They were the type of people who were smarty pants in middle school & took honor classes, but high school came around & they became pot heads & what not lol. & yeah I have a few people that decides to not take AP US because it conflicts with their schedule as well. But making friends is the least thing I worry about…

Idk about you guys, but I actually enjoyed in my regular classes… I had 7 regular and 2 honors classes in freshman year coz my middle school teachers didn’t recommend me -___-. And in sophomore year, I had 4 honors classes and 2 regular classes. To be honest, I had more fun in regular classes. Honors classes are kinda boring coz they’re “good” kids. The best thing to do is just be friends with them. It’s better to have different kinds of friends. And just think of the class as a break from the harder classes or something. Do your other homework from other classes during that class or something. You’ll be okay !.. =)

@#15…not the same for me. my honors class was packed with very lively students, while regular classes everybody was so quiet. however your right its so much easier…

Just think of it as expanding your social skills.

I took a regular social studies class first semester last year thanks to a scheduling conflict, and I initially thought I was going to be miserable because of the idiots in my class. However, I eventually found a group of friends to talk to which made my experience worthwhile. My friends who were in the AP version of the class were barely scraping by with C’s while I enjoyed my A.
Don’t go into the class thinking you’re above everyone, and you’ll be fine.

Swizzle knows what’s up.

I honestly love being in regular classes. I had regular Bio and Geometry this year (all freshmen do.) If you’re smart, you become pretty popular. Lot’s of people in that class follow you around, and it’s easy to rise up as a leader. But it’s not all sunshine. There’s plenty of…undesirable kids who are really malicious. Honestly I’m really glad I was in regular classes even though I’mn taking honors this year. Don’t worry. It isnt that bad.

I go to a school that doesn’t offer higher variants of classes like chemistry, Spanish (the only foreign language we have teachers for), or physics. It’s a small K-12 Christian school though and everyone loves each other and it’s a great time whether the class size is 24 in Chem, or consists of 5 students in AP calc. I’m thankful for the school though and enjoy it : ).

With only 32 or so per grade, the first half of the day is the honors or AP (whichever the school offers on it) kids together, and then the second half contains the electives- I guess anyone can transfer out, but I’ve never seen it happen. People just take classes online or at the local CC if the school’s schedule doesn’t work, which happens often.

Shifting back to the topic- if my school wasn’t weird, then I’d be bothered by such a class due to the underachievers and missing the opportunity to be pushed and grow, but it would mean more opportunities to excel elsewhere. Just redistribute the effort you would have put in I guess? You could even study and take the AP test for the class if you want : ).
