A lot of the ECs I'm going to pursue in the further years are all out of school. Volunteering/being part of a Teen Advisory Group for an Art Museum, volunteering/potentially interning at a music venue are the main ones. By application time comes, I could easily have ~200 hours for each one.

There aren't a lot of in school opportunities that interest me besides theatre and potentially Key Club. Is this going to hurt me, at all? If I'm so involved with things outside of school? My dream school is Brown, so I need to be more competitive, but there are so few opportunities in my school since it's low budget.

How are you guys involved in/out of school?

I think that as long as you show commitment to a few activities (even out of school), it’ll be fine. For instance, I’m a rising sophomore, and here are my activities:
Math Team (hopefully all four years)
Tri-M Music Honors Society (member last year, treasurer upcoming year)
Swim Team (next two years for gym credits to graduate…)
French Club (freshman year, I don’t really want to join again)
Volunteering at local hospital (this summer, and then after school for sophomore, junior, and senior year)

You’re fine as long as you show commitment, leadership, and passion. Better to have a few long term ECs (inside and outside) that you’ve shown a commitment to and have some leadership positions in than 20 filler ECs that you did once.
Inside of school, I’m varsity cheer captain, model UN head delegate, NHS vice president, chair of annual charity basketball tournament that I started, StuCo program director, and rugby club president and I’ve done all of these things since 9th/10th grade or gotten leadership positions that are only available to Seniors. I also love all of them!
Outside of school, I do/have done so much volunteering that there isn’t much of a point in trying to list them, haha.
