I’m a sophmore in college. I am part of the 7% in a grade of 1180 kids with a 4.5 weighted GPA. I am taking a rigorous but not the most rigorous course right now. I am a part of 2 clubs in which I volunteer through. I don’t have my eyes set on Ivies either. The Problem is that I don’t have an Ec’s. I can’t do sports b/c money, not a lot of clubs in my school are active imo, I don’t think I can handle anything more rigorous than school seeing I’ve suffered a lot emotionally b/c of school so far and am adapting. I really like baking though and I am currently working towards an award that incorporates 200 volunteer hours, suggestions?
Not sure what that last statement means but there are ways to be involved in activities that don’t cost money-they do not have to be run by your school. They could be done outside school.
I didn’t think school sports cost anything at least not in my area. There are plenty of things you can do, so much it’s hard to narrow it down from your post. What do you like to do in your free time.
If you like banking/finance, maybe you could get an intership at a bank. I don’t know if you could find a job as a bank teller to get exposure to the atmosphere, but it might be worth looking.
Lots of schools charge their students to participate in sports or other ECs. It is not unusual in cash-strapped districts.
OP, I think you are a sophomore in high school, not college, right?
The two clubs you mention sound like ECs, and you will have volunteer hours. That is fine for a lot of colleges. What about something like yearbook or school newspaper? Or something related to theater – even if you don’t have the desire or talent to be on-stage, the theater department always needs help with set building, costumes, makeup, prop handling, program design, lighting/tech, etc.
