being jewish at chapman

my son is considering Chapman seriously it is his first choice . We loved the campus etc . We have 2 concerns . He is coming from a small jewish private school and we want to make sure about the religious aspects of the student body etc. he wants to be exposed to all backgrounds but wants to make sure there is some jewish life there and that he will not feel uncomfortable . Also the second concern is the commuter school questions we have heard . Do a lot of the students commute or go home on weekends . He doesn’t want to be in the minority of students from out of state that stay on campus most weekends . Any input on these questions would be greatly appreciated .
thanks

There are a lot of religious groups on campus, however I am not sure about it specifically. Around 85% of freshman live on campus, although only 35% of sophomores live on campus. There aren’t a lost of housing on campus and the freshman guarantee house. So the sophomores and older are first sign get the housing because the spots are so limited. A lot of older kids live around the university. If you have questions like that just call the admissions office and they can tell you directly all of the info. Also for sophomores and older, there are people on chapman campus that will help you find housing at your price range.

I’d be curious to both these questions as well. We are visiting Chapman on spring break with my junior daughter who is heavily involved with BBYO (president of her chapter) . My older daughter attends UT Austin where Hillel has 200 - 300 kids going to Shabbat dinners each Friday night (the kids love the food!). The school has a very large Jewish population. UT Austin is very diverse which both my daughters want. Kids go home but there is so much to do in Austin that they really don’t ever want to leave. I understand that Chapman is much smaller but wondering if there is a strong Hillel there. My daughter is very interested in Chapman but needs to feel comfortable.
