Being Rejected

Today I received an email saying I was rejected from NYU TISCH, my DREAM school. My portfolio was award winning, I’ve done interviews based on my photography and had very unique and individual responses to the application questions. My grades have always been A’s and B’s. SAT was good. Not really sure what the issue was. I did summer photo programs and have tons of art related volunteering. Would they really deny me based off my demographic? I feel like that is the only reason they would not have wanted me. Maybe my parents income? How do I understand and deal with this rejection!!!

It was my first choice, dream school; my parents and I were praying for a full ride. Did not even get waitlisted. I know my art was more than worthy, been shooting since I was 13, many who work in the field have trained me and agreed. What is the issue?

Many desirable Us have more candidates than they have space for. NYU is known for NOT giving generous aid, so it’s really time to regroup and look at your other options. Good luck! I’m sure many other Us will be thrilled to have you!

I saw online today many saying they received full-rides to NYU. Mostly POC and I’m white so… Anyways, thank you! Hopefully they want to five me a lot of aid ahah.

There is need based and merit based scholarships. Need based depends on your family’s financial situation.

Yeah my dad makes to much to get aid but to little to pay for me to go to college.

You can speculate forever about why you rejected, but you will never know why. Speculating only aggrevates your distress and disappointment. You will need to deliberately stop thinking about this school. Next fall, you will be enrolled somewhere. However, you will jeopardize how well you do personally and academically by pining for the school that rejected you. That school is gone so its name is not included in this post. More

As a rule of thumb for all facets of life, always be where you’re wanted. If NYU doesn’t want you, forget them. Get NYU out of your head, never visit their website again. Go to some place where you’re liked as much as you like them. If one of your other choices offers you something nice, like a nice, fat grant, they’re the ones on your side, give them your business and work on that professional relationship for at least the next four years. Get out of the rear view mirrow and focus on your road ahead. Good Luck.
