Being successful in life

Hi all,
I’m doing some research into how people are successful in their lives and was hoping you could answer just a couple of questions for me as honestly as possible?

  1. What do you want to do in life?
  2. What do you need to achieve it?

to do that, wouldn’t you have to survey people who are “successful”?
and how are those questions going to help you figure out how people are successful?

1.be successful
2. be successful

What does it mean to be successful? I know a lot of people who don’t make a lot of money yet are happy and satisfied with their lives. Would that be counted as successful? I know people who make a lot of money but aren’t that happy, are they considered successful?

  1. Be happy.
  2. Love and enough money to fulfill my needs and some wants.

romanigypsyeyes nailed one aspect of it.

Bill Belichik and his New England Patriots nail the rest of it.

  • Tenacious study and analysis
  • Focus on the immediate challenge
  • Tenacious preparation
  • Tenacious execution

Seriously, the man is a case study in how to be successful. Just ask Rex Ryan.

  1. Make a significant, positive impact on peoples' lives.
  2. A positive outlook, a generous spirit, experience in different cultures, a willingness to appreciate nuances, a readiness to say "thank you."

Well, we don’t have lots of money. Not “successful” in the eyes of many.

But we can put dinner on the table. We have family we love and can count on. We have friends with whom to share the good and bad times. Our kids are growing into wonderful people, full of promise and potential. We’re both teachers, doing a job we love and shaping the futures of some amazing kids.

We laugh more than we cry. We’re try hard to help others who are less fortunate than we, to give of our time and our talents and what we can spare. And we’re trying to teach our kids those same values.

Again, probably not “successful” in the eyes of some. But, on this Thanksgiving morning, we have so much for which to be thankful.

But looking back: aside from wishing I had invested in Pixar or Apple, there’s not much I would change.

The problem is that everyone defines success differently. Personally

  1. Live a happy life.
  2. Work in CS until I can retire, then go back to school to get a PHd in Philosophy and write/teach until I am too old to do so. Live in many cities in 1-2 bedroom apartments. Upon retirement, buy a condo in the city my school is in and live out the rest of my time there.

Get up every morning and be grateful, do the best I can on any given day, tell the important people in my life that I love them before I go to sleep.
