Beirut=Beerpong?

I'm from Ohio, and it's always been beer pong. I hadn't even heard of beirut before college confidential.

BEIRUT-------Toss balls

Beer Pong: played with ping pong paddles

HOWEVER, a LOT of people in the south INCORRECTLY calls the game of BEIRUS by "beer pong".

but heck, who cares.

i admit i have limited experienec, but no one here has ever thought to call it beirut. and frankly, i don't see why anyone EVER thought to call it beirut...

for god's sake, beirut's the capital of lebanon!!

soonersbrian, excellent use of profanity!

CT-beerpong (just tossing)

Western Virginia (Wash & Lee U) - its 'rut here as it should be

Beer Pong is the pyramid cup game, and Beirut is using bottle caps instead.

no, neverborn, that is wrong, caps is a completely different game and involves sitting on the floor and launching bottle caps into a mug across the room

It doesn't really matter now, if you say beirut or beer pong people know you will mean throwing balls in cups. The real beer pong with paddles isn't really played anymore, who wants to deal with paddles while they're just trying to drink. The game must move slower. I think the shift probably reflects the culture's shift to more heavy drinking, which I'm all for.

I'm sorry but your so called "beerpong"game with paddles just isnt payed anymore. actually ive never even seen it played. Beirut and beerpong are now pretty much known as the same game. people know what u mean. so all of you who get ****ed when people call it beerpong and not beirut or viseversa can just call it quits.

Well, you've got beers, and you've got ping pong balls. You can either name your game after Lebanon's capital, or after...beers and ping pong balls. Ya douche bags.

Beerpong - with all of the throwing and the ping pong balls and the pyramid cups. NY.

im really not terribly anal about what people choose to call beirut, but theres a pretty good reason it wasnt called beer pong. the guys who invented beirut played the real beer pong. itd be like creating a new game with baskets and calling it basketball.

at Dartmouth, Pong (just pong) is played with sawed-off ping pong paddles. There are variations based on the formation of the cups and how many you use, but its Pong. If you try to play Beirut (tossing the ball) in a frat here, people will probably laugh at you.

Here's an article that describes the differences and how Dartmouth students are very proud of their game: http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2005111601010

it's definitely Beirut out here in CA, which automatically makes it correct and way cooler than your lame "beer pong" shenanigans.

i know they do the rows and paddles at dartmouth, but do they do it anywhere else? i thought it might be their thing actually

Only two houses at Dartmouth use rows, Sig Nu and Sig Ep, so it's wrong to categorize Dartmouth as "doing rows." The standard formation at Dartmouth is shrub (7 cups arranged in a 3-2-1 pyramid with a stem) but there is also tree (extra row of 4 as base), double stem tree, ship, brutal, and others. But yes, our version does involve paddles. Makes it a ton more fun.

edit I didn't bother reading the two pages before this, so sorry if this has already been voiced

"it's definitely Beirut out here in CA, which automatically makes it correct and way cooler than your lame "beer pong" shenanigans."

Actually since its beer pong in New York it is now the official name because we're cooler :)
