Ok im from the northeast and here, we play Beirut. Whats up with college kids calling it Beerpong. Beirut is such a better name. Just wanted to know if people all over the states call it beerpong or beirut.

iim from the northeast too, but we call it beerpong. IMO, beirut sounds lame

you're from CT and u call it beerpong, that's lame

They're different games... beirut is the pyramid cup toss version and beer pong is played with cups in a row and paddles.

I've always played beerpong with the cups in pyramids and you try and toss them in. Never rows with paddles... I'm from Georgia. It's really big down here. I think I've played it at every college in the area.

i know they do the rows and paddles at dartmouth, but do they do it anywhere else? i thought it might be their thing actually

What most of the country calls Beer Pong is what parts of the east coast call Beirut. It is a game where you throw ping pong balls into a pyramid shape of beer cups. There is also a seperate game called Beer Pong played with actual ping pong paddles. It's kinda like soccer and football, like how in America we have two separate games for soccer and football but in Europe they have no soccer, just two different games of football (at least when referring to American football).

Personally I think Beer Pong sounds way cooler. Beirut sounds like a card game a grandmother would play with her old lady friends. Though, it would be pretty cool if grandmothers played it.

anyone who calls it beirut is a douche

It sounds like a bulgarian sausage to me :p

there actually is a game similar to beer pong played with paddles, well said stonecold... beirut is a douchy name

It really is a neverending argument and most likely it will go on forever

a bulgarian sausage? i was thinking more along the lines of the capital of Lebanon..., and at Michigan we call it beer pong

whether or not you call it 'beerpong' or 'beirut' is like the discussion on what you call a big sandwich- 'hoagie' vs 'grinder' vs 'sub' - you say to-may-to and i say to-mah-to. whatever you call it, it refers to the same thing!

no to-may-to to-mah-to to it.... just beerpong its the only way

no, it doesnt refer to the same thing, and im not sure how many people have to point this out. the term 'beer pong' properly refers to the game with paddles. 'beirut' (without the paddles) was invented at some point in the 80s at either bucknell or lehigh. they are two different games.

the simple fact that most people refer to 'beirut' as 'beer pong' doesnt make it correct.

yeah, beer pong is a variation of ping pong, and thus has paddles. Beirut is aptly named for, i forget when, some attack on beirut that involved launching artillery over the walls from outside, much like the act of throwing the ping pong ball into the cups.

"you say to-may-to and i say to-mah-to."

you say beirut, I say f-u-c-k you.

its beirut in MA

soonersbrian, no need to use profanity! i was just sharing my experiences with these terms, and in my area and at various schools that i visited friends at we always used them interchangibly. didnt know people would be so aggressive!

beer pong here = pyramid of cups and a ping pong ball

nobody really knows how to pronounce beirut here lol
