Still waiting
I think we are all no’s. Lol.
I doubt anything will come today. It’s getting late.
Kid is still at sports practice so she won’t check her email until later tonight. Sounds like nobody heard anything today, though. Hopefully tomorrow. The suspense!
I am hoping it’s tomorrow that we will all hear. Remember that the person in charge of coordinating the Belk said that every student who applied (after being nominated) will get an e-mail either saying “yes” or “no” late this week - I would think that this means by the end of the work week. Fingers crossed! My child is also a finalist for the Johnson at W&L (heard last Friday in the evening) but we remain very interested in Davidson as well. Both schools are great!
@BPart1030 Can you share your kid’s application stats, please?
I doubt that he will allow me to share details - he was recently admitted to Harvard, but they do not offer any merit-aid and we don’t qualify for need-based. He is pursuing scholarship opportunities from other top schools he applied to before hearing from Harvard (restricted early action) mid December. He plans to consider all options.
@BPart1030 congratulations on the Harvard admittance!
I’m tired of refreshing S19’s email for the last couple of days. I’m going to stay away from it most of the day today. Be sure to update here if you hear a no! And pm me if you get a yes…lol!!
This is the email response this morning from one of Assistant Dean:
“All nominees for the Belk scholarship will be updated on their status very soon – I know that our team is wrapping things up and preparing to notify students but not exactly when. It will be via email and should be within the next week.”
So … more waiting?
@singingbear good grief. I wonder why this year it might take an extra week. Maybe they had even more kids nominated.
Remember, though, that I got an email last Thursday from the merit scholarship assistant saying they would find out this week. So there’s that.
I was told there are 1000 nominees, but they are more qualified this year … maybe this is why taking longer?
Oh goodness! I was really hoping to hear by Friday. Anyone know about notifications for other scholarships besides Belk? There are other academic as well as Music ones.
@mammag I think all others aren’t announced until after the kids get their acceptances in March.
Upthread someone asked about the Johnson at W&L vs the Belk. Last year there were about 2700 applicants for the Johnson, and 175 were invited to compete for the scholarship. They awarded 49 Johnsons. My D did not progress for the Belk, but she did get the Johnson.
@katespeare I hope your daughter is loving W&L! My son is a second year there (no scholarship, alas!) Did your daughter also go through UVA’s Jefferson scholarship selection process?
@singingbear - Really?? The email said next week ? (imagine me saying that in a high squeaky disbelieving voice).
That’s a real bummer. The waiting part is so hard. I hope they manage to get emails out by Friday. :((
@LakeAlto I really think it’s this week. @singingbear looks like he got info from an assistant dean who isn’t really in touch with the scholarship committee. My email was directly from someone in the merit scholarship office.
@mammag She only applied to small LACs, so UVA wasn’t really a fit, so she did not apply. She is loving W& L, though! Also, she found out about her music scholarship from Davidson before the official notification date, which was nice.
So glad she’s having a great first year! How nice to find out early about music scholarship from Davidson. What does she play/perform? My daughter is a french horn player who submitted a portfolio for Music at Davidson (along with Belk application too). She’s a finalist for Johnson at W&L and a finalist for Jefferson at UVA. Maybe she’ll meet your daughter at W&L.
