Belmont: How does it compare to top music schools?

Belmont University is a gorgeous place. It is a friendly campus in a fantastic music city. It is hard to determine the relative quality of music schools, however. Everyone knows the top three or five, but the rest of the "good" music programs are difficult to rank.

In general, what is Belmont University's reputation among music folks in the know? Does the music education there compare in quality to what can be found at other excellent schools?

Thank you in advance if anyone can be of help.

Iheart-my S auditioned at both of the schools you asked about. Belmont was small, beautiful and had many Nashville resources to tap into. When we were there it seemed the voice program was their most popular along with music business. S was turned off by the lack of practice rooms (as stated in the student forum by the students that were there) and the faculty of his instrument. UNT however was so impressive! The campus is large, new and eco-friendly. There were 2 huge buildings full of practice rooms and the faculty were very professional and involved. The town of Denton was meh-other than some of the restaurants. There were plans to bring the train up to Denton when we were there but I don’t know if that ever happened. Ultimately my S picked a large public university with a smaller studio for his instrument. UNT has a large music college with lots of students and he wasn’t sure that was for him. Belmont will cost more than UNT but whether it’s a better school is a subjective comparison. You pick the college with the faculty you feel will help you the most.
