Belmont v. Northeastern v. Syracuse v. Drexel v. Cal Poly Pomona

I've recently been accepted to the music industry programs at Northeastern, Cal Poly Pomona, and Drexel, as well as the music business/honors program at Belmont, and the Bandier Program at Syracuse. I think I have a decent idea of the advantages and disadvantages to each school, but I would like some more input from students/parents. Please give whatever information or advice you can on each school and please talk about things like program quality, location, student life, reputation, cost etc. It is going to be difficult deciding. Thanks so much for your input!

Northeastern will get u the best job out of the schools you got into. It’s co-op is pretty unique, the other schools arent nearly as well regarded either. NEU for sure. Plus Boston, Red Soxs, Italian food…like come on man.

What kind of music industry are you interested in?
I would eliminate Drexel and, unless I am mistaken about their program, CPP (CA posters will chime in).
Northeastern and Belmont are both strong. The Bandier program is another impressive program. So the main contenders would be NEU, Belmont, and Bandier.

First question first:
How much would each school cost (after subtracting any scholarship, but before any loan or work study)?

@MYOS1634

These are rough estimates
Belmont: 30,000
Syracuse: 62,000
Northeastern: 59,000
Cal Poly Pomona: 19,000
Drexel: 42,000

My parents are willing to pay up to a reasonable point (Belmont, CCP, and maybe Drexel would be covered), but I could take out some Loans for Syracuse and Northeastern or maybe apply for some extra scholarships.

Syracuse and Northeastern aren’t worth it. For that cost, I’d go to Belmont. The program is well-known in the industry but you have to be ready for it, it recruits nationally and is very competitive.

@AJM1996 Mind posting your stats? I’m currently a junior and I’m interested in the same exact programs as you

@AJM1996 As for your decision, I’d go with either Belmont or Syracuse. The decision is down to fit and financial issues. Are you fine with a highly Christian and southern atmosphere at Belmont? If you want to get jobs/internships while in college, Belmont might be better, since Nashville has a better music scene. However, in the music industry, it all comes down to what you personally do and how you network. You can’t go wrong with either school.

If Belmont’s evangelical identity isn’t your cup of tea, then CPP. The rest are just too expensive (unless your parents have that amount x4 in the bank.) Taking more than the federal loans ($5,500 freshman year) is a bad idea since the total amount of $27,000 for 4 years is the amoung a college graduate can expect tobe able to pay back over 10 years. Considering how difficult it is to break into the music industry and how many internships are unpaid, it’d be unwise to take on other loans If your parents have that much money in the bank, the situation is different.
