My son is deciding b/w these two programs. We have visited both, and are going back again this weekend to make a decision. Both have many positive attributes and few negatives. With merit scholarships, Northeastern will cost about $20K more total over 4 years so finances are pretty much a wash. Any insights/knowledge appreciated, especially from current MI students. Thanks!!
My son just graduated from Northeastern with a degree in Music Industry. He landed a wonderful job in the industry at one of his former co-ops. Clearly, I am very biased towards Northeastern and their co-op program!
I really know nothing about Syracuse, so I cannot compare them. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or PM me.
Best of luck to your son!
Thanks for responding - you may regret offering your assistance as I rapid fire questions!!
How was the process for him getting a co-op? I’ve heard it can be stressful, and depending on the industry, low-paying and not as plentiful as the engineering and health sciences kids. Did the school help out or was he on his own? How many co-ops did he do?
How did he enjoy student life at NEU, as it’s very much a career-focused school? If you don’t mind me asking, where is he working now and what is he doing?
Thanks a lot!!
@pugmadkate forgot to tag you above!! thanks!
The school helps out with landing co-ops but the student has to do a lot of work as well. I think the process was great practice for my son when he graduated and was looking for a job in the real world. The co-ops he had did not pay great ($10 an hour) but they were excellent experience. He did two traditional co-ops and one summer internship.
He did enjoy student life. He was very involved in theater plus he worked as a proctor in the dorms. He made some great friends at Northeastern.
He works for one of the major recording labels in NYC. He is the assistant to the VP of digital marketing and loves it.
