Hi
My TAG as a bio major transferring to UC Davis was accepted in November. Unfortunately due to a lot of things going on in my life, this was my worst semester yet. I received 2 C’s and a B, and my overall GPA is now a 3.14. I am heartbroken and so disappointed in myself. My counselor said that I will have until the end of spring 2016 to reach the 3.2 requirement, but I am very worried that this may not be correct.
I realize that it makes me look extremely bad that my most recent semester is my worst one in my entire academic career…has anyone had any experience with a situation like mine? Any input is greatly appreciated.

The guy who posted this thread said he spoke to 2 UC reps and they told him that he had until spring to bring up his GPA. Can anybody confirm this?
The people that can confirm this are working in UC admissions, not posting anonymously on the internet. What is preventing you from calling or emailing Davis admissions?

“[Students must] meet or exceed the minimum overall GPA of 3.20 from the time their TAGs are submitted up to the time of enrollment. Students cannot receive grades below a C.”
Yes, you need a cumulative transferable 3.2 by the end of Spring 2016. Be sure that your major only requires a 3.2 - some require a 3.3 or so.
@mikemac I received my final grades on Friday, when I was in surgery, and realized the gravity of my situation yesterday, on Sunday. I just took to the cc boards in hopes of getting some advice from my fellow students. I will be calling my rep today. Thanks for the great comment
@UnderN3rd What @goldencub said Also, be sure to explain this change in gpa somewhere on your application, maybe add a comment. Worst case scenario - email them, apparently UCs are big on communication (well, some of them are).
You might still have a fair shot without tag, especially if you have/will have all of your major prep completed. With UCs you never know. There were some people in the last year threads that got in with 3.0 and some that got rejected with 4.0. Almost random.
I called the UCD rep and she said that my tag is now invalid. I’m extremely confused, as all of my counselors and the transfer center at my CC said that the GPA requirement must be met by spring, not fall. Has anyone ever experienced this??
@UnderN3rd The TAG agreement says: “You must MAINTAIN a GPA of 3.20 or higher for all UC-transferable units taken prior to transfer enrollment.”
I wish they would make the contract clearer, but from what I gather, they want you to maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher the entire time from the TAG approval to when you transfer to UCD. If it dips at all below 3.2 (or 3.3 depending on your major), the contract is voided. That’s what every UCD rep has told me, and that’s what I see when I look at the contract. In my experience, CC counselors have never been that helpful or even correct in their information or understanding of the transfer process.
+1 on what BaW says about CC counselors. I had one tell me that I needed 30 UC-Transferable units before Summer 2015 (I met the 30+ with summer courses from last year) if I wanted to apply for UCD Tag lol.
I had a counselor tell me to not take any summer classes because it won’t be fun. I also had a counselor tell me that taking Psychology classes (as a Psych major!) aren’t required to transfer to UC Berkeley or any other UC school. I saw a counselor a couple months ago to double check that I was good to submit my TAG to Davis, and all he did was add up all the units i’ve earned and was like “Yeah, you’re good.” Real stupid.
lol CC counselors are full of shit
Had not 1 but 3 goddamn counselors tell me I could TAG and take the math req in spring. Lies >.>
^but you totally can. I had my UCD tag accepted while missing Biology that I am taking in the spring.
@bijan588 UCD and UCSB require the math/english requirements to be taken by the end of the Fall term for TAG eligibility, I believe.
Anyone by chance knows the TAG criteria for Fall 2017 for UCD? I’d imagine it would be the same but 2017 would just replace the year 2016 lol.
